New S&C coach for the baseball team. Apparently he's helped transform these guys pretty quickly. MPH up on fastballs, good weight added, body fat down, numbers up.


Great attitude--

"I'm demanding," Gabriel said. "When I first got here it was `We've never had to do this.' Those kids have to get used to it - we're going to work that hard all the time. Complacency kills."

Now Gabriel is happy where the team has gone and is heading.

"Those kids have worked really hard, 6 a.m.'s to 6 p.m.'s," Gabriel said. "My program is built around speed and explosiveness. They've gone hard after it."

Any chance he gets to pull double duty and help out Swasey? Some fresh blood and ideas never hurt.

Another great feature: he was actually educated in this field. Gabriel earned his master's degree in biobehavioral science-physical education from Columbia in 2006.

The basketball S&C coach also had Larkin and Kadji improving their vertical jumps and testing excellent for the combine.
 
Looking over strength coaches at other schools, most of them have some formal education in their field.

Would be nice.
 
You guys calling for Swasey's head are late to the party. We got rid of him. We hired Tony Decker 3 years ago.

Its sad that he said our players never had to do the stuff he had them doing. Sounds like the S&C for our baseball team has truly been lacking. Now we have an IVY league educated S&C guy taking over that sounds great to me.

Exactly. Blaming Swasey for the **** hole we're in is like blaming the guy who rips your tickets at the movie theater for a bad movie.
 
I've been trying to convince Swasey to switch to this program for years.

You know, it is entirely possible that Swasey and D'Onofrio are both doing a poor job.

Nobody ever said our defensive style lends itself to playing fast, but that doesn't mean our S&C program is as good as it can be.
