BREAKING: Jakai Clark Commits To Miami

Player Comparison: Harland Gunn
Gunn came in at like 6'2 300. Grinded and ended up having a good career here. Gunn was a nasty f*cker in the run game too

Kid mixes it up. I love the commitment for the simple fact he is a true center. Thats what he plays and he is already proficient there. Alot of college centers are kids that played tackle or other psots at their high school.

Impressions: On his hudl. The play at : 15 seconds really impresses me and shows his ability. He snaps the ball and does a peel back block that is devastating. At :40 seconds he snaps and zone blocks. He pancakes the guy. He plays at a power house program that plays good talent and FINISHES blocks which i love.

I love the pick up actually..at worst kid is our back up center for 4 years...and helps us out at Grayson. Also this is akid that likely mixes it up with Nesta and the crew. We have a lot of softies on the line...need to bring it guys that wanna fight people on the ol

Thank you sir!
Awesome as usual.

Been saying it for years, but stars at OL are generally a giant crap shoot. Aside from the super-blue-chip OTs like Pace and Ogden and giant athletic freaks like that, it’s total guesswork by the star guys.

Centers and Guards are incredibly hard to project, which is why you need a great evaluator/developer at OL Coach, and it’s also why I put a gigantic premium at smarts, toughness, nastiness and overall character at OC and OG.

It's also why i would rather we recruit excess tackles knowing they can probably kick inside (if they have the right body type), but if you run short on tackles, you are screwed.....we've all seen that.

With less power man schemes these days and more zone principles, the need for interior linemen that are road graders to move people is less a priority. I would prefer good pass blockers and guys with good movement skills.....double initially to get movement then release and pick up someone on the 2nd level. There's nothing more frustrating than seeing guys lose across their face at the snap time after time bc they are slow out of their stance and lack the step/agility to wash their man down.

Love the pick up

What concerns me - Searles hasn't shown the ability to develop anyone in 3 years
interesting thought tho...they were discussing searles in the eye in the sky and if u think about it i think he can...he can't develop for richt's scheme but when we ran the spread the players looked good. if we run a spread the oline will look better and we will get better recruits and win.

I love seeing the *****ing from my home state fans. 75% of them probably don’t even know where the football stadium is in Champaign.

And that is why I said - since you weren't paying attention - its cool to get a Jakai Clark, but you can't have a class full of 3* either...and that is the direction our OL class is headed. It was commentary not necessarily about Clark in a bubble, its about the state of OL recruiting. Eguakun (3*) --> Clark (3*) is fine. Tarquin (4*) to ??? (3*?) is not. Evan Neal (5*) to ??? (3*) is not.

Also, three bluechip C prospects seems about right. Center isn't a position ripe with ready made projectable talent. Its a position that often needs lots of grooming and development.
Neal wasn't a lock, and people who have seen Tarquin up close seen he was meh. He torn his labrum which means he's definitely not playing in 2019 I probably would say not even 2020. We know what data says but data can be skewed we can both agree on that

I’m definitely not a Searels fan and I’ve been hard on the o-line this year but I do think there is something to this. That line was done no favors running Richts sh*t offense. They looked much more comfortable spreading it out those last couple games. I don’t suspect we would have ever seen it had the TE’s not went down. Interested to see what is rolled out for the bowl game with the TE’s back...

Why is that "SMH"?

He plays at Grayson, a Georgia power. You don't think the HS coaches at schools like that are teaching college level stuff?
Love the kid love the commit. Either y'all want searles out or you dont make up your mind. Also no I dont think its a good look that the coach most fans want gone the most is teaching technique that a high school coach uses.

WTF difference does it make if they're teaching the same technique? 🙄

Good high school coaches teach the same **** as the college guys.
Football doesn't become rocket science once you get to college. LOL

This narrative needs to stop.
We ran the spread even when our TE's were healthy.

What are you talking bout
Until his letter is in the building, I wouldn't count on him. He's has no problem flipping. Either you want to be a Hurricane or you don't. If he signs early it shows that he want to be a Hurricane. That's all I'm saying.
