Breaking: FSU admits they are a poverty program - will hire Luke Loucks as HC

Wonder if Cassell passed on the job. Interesting.

He will be the third head coach, if Christie keeps the Kings job as that’s currently being reported, to emerge from Mike Brown’s Kings staff.

He’s had around 47 posts bemoaning the selection of Lucas. Tiring
My wife won't listen to me complain, so I have to vent somewhere.

If I didn't care so much about Miami basketball I wouldn't post anything.

It's also interesting that we have 2 other very knowledgeable basketball posters that aren't exactly excited over the hire either in @AmherstCane and @Canedude08 . I would put those 2 posters against anyone on this board from a pure basketball and this program knowledge.

We should be a NCAA tournament team in 2-3 years if this hire is as great as some of you think.

Sam is likely to get an NBA HC job soon, so it makes sense, especially if he knows FSU isn’t serious about funding and supporting their program, which they obviously aren’t. Serious programs don’t make these hires.

I think Jai is a terrific person.

I don’t think he is fully prepared to step in as the HC of a P5 team.

In his interview with Joe Z he talked about prioritizing defense… but also pushing tempo offensively and scoring in the 80s.

That sounds AMAZING… except it is *almost* impossible to do in the real world.

Sure, it works with Cooper Flag and 4 other top-20 recruits… but that’s not a realistic roster for us in the next 3-5 years (if ever).

So… those comments unfortunately reinforce my fundamental concerns that the guy is gonna have to figure out what his style and strategy is while also learning to be a head coach.

I'm completely on board on the surface. Network, recruiting, young, bloodline, hopefully UM is ready to support.

But 2 years in this era with the portal you can be a .500ish team next year and then 20+ wins and tourney bound or very very close in year 2. If we dont make the tourney we can at least look at what he's done and go "oh boy year 3 is going to be fun"

I also hope we land one shocker big time recruit. Just as some proof that he can recruit and our NIL is ready to roll.

Agreed about FSU’s funding and support from the outside looking in.

I am not sure if he is about to get a HC job soon as he went through the past two off seasons with no success. Definitely still has a chance. Yet, it seems unlikely that a franchise will hire a lifetime assistant coach who’s 55 years old.

Going back to 2010, most of the 50+ years old first time NBA head coaches had experience being a head coach at a different level and/or were longtime assistants of the team that hired them.

Larry Drew and Jeff Hornaneck, who got a HC job very quickly similarly to Chauncey Billups, were the last ones without any head coaching experience (2010 + 2013).

Cassell could end up getting that Philly job if Nurse has another bad year, but he has been an assistant coach since he retired (‘08) without any HC offers. All the organizations he has ties to have passed on him: Wizards, Clippers, Rockets, Timberwolves, Suns, Nets, Bucks.

From what I’ve read, Loucks has a very close relationship with Hamilton, which could have played a factor in his hiring.

Will be a tournament team next year if he brings the Boozer twins.

Not an assistant.

The assistant who recruited them to Duke.
I suspect Boozers to Miami is squarely in the realm of fan fantasy.

For many reasons.

They didn’t go to Duke for Jai. And they’re probably not going to go to Miami for Jai. Because of that - and the fact that there is honor even amongst thieves - I doubt Jai would want to burn every bridge he has to Scheyer and Duke world. He hasn’t been a coach long enough to do something like that.

I think the only play for the Boozers to Miami is through Moran… but I would imagine the Boozer family is more savvy than that.

Anyone who suggests that Jai is a better basketball coach than Coach L right now is on drugs. And the Boozers are not dummies. So the idea that the Boozers would go to Miami to play for Jai when they wouldn’t go to Miami to play for L is probably a silly notion… regardless of how much they might like Jai.

Of course, people do irrational stuff all the time… so hold on!
