We all knew that L was over it, you could see it in his body language last year. Honestly, I think he felt as he needed to see this through, but he realized that he just couldn't get it going again. That said, he's given this basketball junkie a ride of a lifetime. I came to Miami as an 17 year old freshman, the 'Canes were in the first year of the ACC, basketball was an afterthought. I went to games as a freshman, people made fun of you for bringing up the program, people thought it was nerdy to care about the basketball program.
By the time I left Miami after completing my masters and JD, basketball was at least tolerated, if not cool in some circles. L did that. L made it to where I could see the 'Canes play in the Final Four in real life, not just on a video game. L made it to where beating Duke and UNC wasn't a once in a lifetime win.
I wish him well, and I hope that Rad does the right thing and makes a big boy hire. Don't cheap out. Do your **** job and get the best possible coach you can find and give that coach the resources needed to win.
I will say this though, it's amazing how Miami hatred has filtered down to the basketball program. You have writers and other jock sniffers lining up to cast aspersions on L for "He was the first to pay guys, now he's mad about the system". L wasn't the first, he isn't the last and multiple top end coaches have said exactly what he said and NONE of them were criticized for it.
