Brashard Smith: Miami or SMU

Nyheim Hines from NC St. Converted from WR to RB and went 4th RD. Similar build, similar stats.

If Brashard Smith tests like Hines did at the combine, he has a legit shot at going Day 2.

Martinez/Smith would've been an incredible 1A/1B this year. Too bad we didn't get to see it, but it worked out the best for both of them.
If they would've been used differently. Montgomery vs Gibbs. If they were both just running inside zone and hoping Cooper dragged them for 5 yards backwards Smiff would be dead.

I remember Smith making tough catches and running hard while here. Sad it didn’t work out but we saw playmaking ability.

He was behind an AA at slot. It is what it is.

We just can’t seem to know how to use players like him and similarly.
This is a Typical CIS post.

Facts: Miami wanted to switch Smith to RB and he said no.

Facts: SMU told Smith he wouldn't play much at WR so they switched him to RB where he excelled.

Fiction: We just can’t seem to know how to use players like him and similarly.

To summarize: SMU got him to excel and Miami didn’t.

Brashard did better at SMU than he would have at Miami. Miami performed better without Brashard than with him. Both are facts. We can debate whether Brashard would have been a better rush option than Martinez and Fletcher, or a better pass option than our top 3-4 WRs. But given our offense was #1 in the country, seems a pointless argument to me.

“Brashard didn’t want to play rb at miami”

Funny that’s the new excuse because i remember people on here saying he wouldn’t be a top 3 RB here lol. Said he wouldn’t crack the rotation, meanwhile he rushed for 1300 yards in the same conference

Rhett talked about Brashard during one of their in game features. He said he told Brashard when he reached out he wasn't sure they had a spot but he could come down and see what they could do. Rhett mentioned they knew they needed to figure out a way to use his athleticisim so they gave him a shot at RB. He took off and grew as the season went along.

Was he the recipient of some good fortune in the way of Knighton's injury? Probably. But there 's no way to say he wouldn't have won that job eventually.

Not trying to defend anyone or point fingers at an;yone but sometimes I think guys aren't given every opportunity to shine. They were clearly recruited for a reason; figure out how to use them.

Pretty sure I was also saying Brashard should have been our starting (or very heavy rotational) RB the previous season, cause he was the only guy giving us any juice. But who cares what happened this season when We had the #1 Offense in the country, and our run game was great? It's not like Brashard Smith is returning another season. He had 1 very good yr, at the same time we just had excellent offensive output...

The problem with what your saying is we also asked Brashard to move to RB to get him on the field and he refused. So why is it all of a sudden different when he's at SMU and is asked to do the same.

Well what do posters on CIS have to do with UM coaches and the fact they asked him to move and he said no. SMH

It worked out for both parties. We had the best offensive in the country with one of the most dynamic rb duos in the country. Brashad put up great numbers in a really good system. I'll take Martinez and Fletcher any day of the week though
