Bobby Petrino hypothetical

Wasn't any terror on my end. God, if only he HAD gone to PSU. Then, they could suck, but oddly, they're looking like they're back in the hunt this year. SOB!

You like to conveniently leave a lot of things out to make some twisted, misleading statement or claim.

Our program was in absolute ruin. Players in deep siht. Assistants helping in the Pell Grant scandal. Lack of institutional control, on and on and on. 31, there were 31 scholarship reductions. Golden hasn't suffered the first damned one yet!

31 scholarship reductions compared to Golden having NONE - and Butch's worst win/loss with one, single exception - matches Golden's very best performance in 3 friggin' years.

31 scholarship reductions is 1.5 recruiting classes. As in zero for a year and a half.

There weren't too many players lining up and knocking on the door to play during those years either, genius.

On top of the nine we are going to lose to the NCAA you act as if Miami and Golden weren't dropping scholarships the last 2 years on top of it. And that the cloud of the NCAA scandal wasn't being used against Miami up until the punishment came down from the NCAA. Not to mention self imposing bowl games and an ACC Title Game along the way.

Comical.

It took Butch 6 years to get 10 wins, couldn't even do it in the first four years with Dennis Erickson's players who never finished worse than 15th. Lets see where Golden gets us in year 6 and compare.

Hey, genius. Take 31 scholarships from Golden, and let's see if he can put together a National Championship caliber team in 6 years.

He wouldn't even win four games a year for 4 consecutive years.

Butch's teams ended up

1995 ranked #20
1996 ranked #14
1997 unranked
1998 ranked #20
1998 ranked #15
2000 ranked #2

Butch took teams in 96 (second season by the way)98, 99, 00 teams to bowl games and won all of them.

Butch's teams beat many ranked teams throughout the years (look it up) including #2 UCLA.

What has Golden done again? How many ranked teams has he beaten? **** how many teams with winning records has he beaten?

How many bowl wins does Al have?

Crickets that's all I hear.

Nice try Skibby skibby

Took 6 years to break double digit wins, his first upperclassmen didn't break .500. Got Erickson's players the first 2 years of his career here to carry him.

Yeah his record here after the first 3 years is just so much better than Golden's.

Butch fangirls are the worst.

He didn't have Erickson's players for two years! Many left, some graduated! What a dumbass statement!

Golden, in the last three years, hasn't lost one single player due to scholarship reductions - Butch in his first three years lost 31 scholarships!

With the exception of one year Butch had Miami in the Top 20! In spite of losing 31 scholarships!

You don't really want to compare apples to apples - Before and After the scholarship reductions, we were whipping some serious ***! Butch, in a rebuilding mode, went from #20, to #15, to #2 - a constant improvement - against a much tougher schedule.

Face it. Golden sucks.

I mean, I hoped Golden would get fired, just because it could possibly mean we would have hire Chud, Butch or Schiano back. That IMO, would have been great. **** We always talk about how good of a coach Butch was, but he was there when Golden had his little fling with PSU. PLus, Butch was completely cleared by the NCAA of EVERYTHING having to do with UNC's violations. Butch or Chudzinski would have been awesome head coaches for Miami to have. Schiano would be next after those two.
If Golden gets fired, I really hope we can bring in one of those 3.

I think I have to remind you all that while Butch was head coach, the NCAA only allowed teams to play 11 games, which is 1 less than they currently are able to.
So in 95, his first year, he went 8-3. 72% Win% (WP)
In 96, we were ranked the entire year, finished 8-3 again. 2 of the losses were to VT who finished #13, and FSU who finished #3. 72% WP
In 97, we weren't good. 5-6, 45% WP
In 98, we went 9-3, Only losing to teams that finished in the Ap top 25. 75% WP
In 99, we wnt 9-4, 3 of the losses came to the #1, #2, and #3 team when we played them, two finishing top 2, one finishing #11. 69% WP
in 2000, we only lost 1 game to UW who finish #3, and got screwed out of a National Championship game. 11-1 92% WP.
Compare that to Golden, who went 6-6 (50%), 7-5 (58%), 9-4 (69%). So Butch only had 1 year that was worse than Golden, every other year was better, Especially when you take into account who we lost to, like in 99.

You guys need to stop this shìt. Butch had an eye for talent. He inherited a team with only 5 seniors in 95 (23 juniors). That's why he won some games early. AND, why they took the bowl ban immediately (very few seniors to disappoint). Once the sanctions really hit hard - the 97 season - they sucked, but had some really promising players. Keep in mind that Butch was able to work around the sanctions to some extent (Gonzales and Moss in particular). You can't do that anymore. Of the 31 scholarships lost, UM self-imposed 7 in 95. Guess what? The 18 we signed were all we had room for. That's a point that always, without fail, gets overlooked. Why? Because 31 sounds better than 24 (and, on paper it is 31). Don't get me wrong - that 24 actual lost scholarships hurt like ****. It's a huge credit to Butch that he had the eye to recruit the guys he did, cause Butch was no better a game day coach than Shannon or Golden (Shannon and Golden suck as game day coaches, IMO). The biggest point is that it took Butch a long time to produce a real winner - for whatever reason.

It was by no means popular opinion in 1998 that Butch was the right guy for us. We may look back now and say so, but not at the time. This happens all the time. We know the results then rewrite our memories to assume the results were inevitable. That's what 20/20 hindsight is. It wasn't inevitable. It disturbs me a little that the revisionist history is being swallowed whole.

I don't think Golden is going to get us where we all want to go. BUT, he is the coach this year and I am still cautiously optimistic (for this year only). My optimism's shelf life has just about expired. This year is "put up or go away" for me.

Say what you want to. Butch proved to be a better coach than Golden this early in their careers. The numbers are right there. FACTS.

Erickson was one of the worst recruiters we have ever had at UM FACT.

Erickson won with Jimmy's guys. Once his guys were counted on to play we went downhill fast. Do you not remember this?

Again how many bowl games has Al won? How many ranked teams has he helped win?

Hmmmmmm

Al Golden's fangirls are hilarious, they can't see mediocrity even when it's staring them right in the face.

Every team Butch lost to was less talented than his teams except for FSU.

You can say the same thing about JJ.

Saban. Urban.

How many times during football season do we see a lesser team beat a greater (and more talented) opponent? By the way, I've never seen so many losses to less talented teams than Golden has already accomplished.

It's gotta be a Miami record.

Our team under Golden and Co. not only lose games they shouldn't but we get throttled in those games.

Another important fact is/was Butch's ability to see problems and successfully make changes.

Our defense was complete dog sh*t under Bill Miller in 98. Butch realized that his "read and react" (sound familiar?) defense just won't cut it at UM.

What does he do? He makes the necessary change after the season by firing Miller and hiring a more aggressive Greg Schiano to run the defense.

What was the end story to that move? Our defense improved ten fold. We became way more competitive in 99 and gave #1 FSU all they wanted.

UM ended the season not only on a nice winning streak but our defensive secondary did not give up a TD pass in the final 3 or 4 games.

This move was an important cog as we started to become relevant once again beginning in 00.

What changes has Al made despite clear evidence that his defensive scheme at UM sucks?

Great/good coaches change their beliefs/schemes to fit the talent of their team. Golden even said every year the team is different.

Golden is so **** stubborn that he refuses to make necessary changes even though it's obvious we are lousy/terrible/brutal on defense.

Golden lovers. You realize that not only were we bad on defense but we ended up fielding the worst defenses in UM history?

That's ok with you guys? We DID NOT have enough talent on defense to be average on defense not putrid? Really?

Newsflash

Randy was a lousy head coach and a lot of you guys blame him for giving Golden lousy talent.

Well guess what? Randy's teams ended up ranked 30th or better in total defense with that same lousy talent.

Three years under Golden and we're all hoping to at least be top 50. SMMFH Top 50 at UM with S. Florida athletes? Really?

The pussification/cokerization of our fanbase continues.
