Blake was the classic scapegoat for the homer types who still believed in diaz. It was hilarious to watch the weekly mental gymnastics they would go thru. When the defense did bad it was baker, when the defense did good it was diaz. Like they would go soon far as to say what specific plays diaz would call during a game but it was baker when **** went bad.. lol..

Not sure if baker was good or bad but what I do know is diaz was the head guy and it was his show, regardless of baker diaz was head huncho. That means he takes main responsibility.. good times

Blake, he was tasked with running Diaz's whack *** system. No head coach who rose through the ranks as a defensive coach is going to let their new DC overhaul their system. I won't ever put what we saw on Baker and the post above is spot on about the mental gymnastics people on the subject.

The problem is Banda and Patke should never had these jobs at Miami to begin with.

No coaches first paying job should be an on the field assistant at a major power 5 school.

Diaz and Richt did a major disservice to these guys. For Banda, it took awhile but he came thru. Patke sank. Richt Jr sank.

I didn't despise blake as much as most on here, Manny was responsible for all defense and he let it get away from him after he became HC


but the real telling thing is that our DC from last year (blake) wasn't even retained as a position coach by brian kelly

Brian Kelly isn’t making the greatest coaching hires right now. Losing Corey Raymond to Florida and some of the hires he is making isn’t a great look.

They will be a lil better than decent to good in his first 2 years….because he’s 1). coaching up somebody else’s talent. Those kids have been coached up to be a part of a disciplined scheme, so a little chaos will be good for them and it will cause some problems for the teams they face. Think Manny’s 1st year or 2 under Richt 2). There’s enough ****** offenses on the lower end of the B1G for him to be competitive, and for the numbers to not get too crazy (They will get they **** kicked in vs. the top of the conference tho). 3). Franklin won’t let him get to wild. (Again, think CMR)
His “scheme” will affect the younger kids the most, because chaos will be all they know. That’s when the fall will happen. If they haven’t parted ways by the end of year 3, PSU defense will fall off of a cliff.

He doesnt recruit as well and fan bases get tricked by that. Someone who cant recruit and goes to a talented roster it takes 3 years for the fans to turn, if he was a recruiter those guys can survive unless the HC is a complete scrub. So they didnt see the trash trail stuff LSU still hold weight.
