Beverly in the portal

I get that there is a benefit to having players that understand the system and have been here, and I like all of these players. But having said that, none of these are big losses. You can pretty easily go to the portal and find folks that can replace the production of Beverly and Walker - they barely did anything. We have room now to get a few more productive players so that we aren't solely dependent on a starting 5. I always want our players to stay but i'm glad as well that we now have this room to maneuver.

The team was pretty cohesive all season. This many departures seems unusual and a bit troublesome given the portal misses.

I don’t see much momentum but things change daily. But 8 scholarships is far from ideal.
Both guys averaged basically 3/1/1.....these aren't losses other than as you mention, with cohesion. That could be an issue but performance wise, can't see how this is bad.

I'm shocked at all the praise. Personally thought he wasn't anywhere near top-8 material. When he and Walker came into the game, it was more of praying they wouldn't f up rather than expecting them to do something productive.

We're getting MUCH Better players. Actually competent backups - need to improve, not just rest on laurels.

This AND the folks claiming we have a bunch of portal misses. Not sure if they remember but we were just in the Final Four and due to that we automatically got a later start to the portal activity. That is a disadvantage I will take year in and year out!

just hope there is sufficient NIL money that will get them to come here for whatever role or playing time is needed (they dont want to be part of the practice squad)

Glad we got our mileage out of the “we were one of only x programs in the country without a transfer last year” line because it has now expired.

Thank you Sir B wish it had worked out better but you contributed much, and Good Luck.

I'd say this large exodus and lack of new NIL deals and some drama or i$$ues seemingly simmering out there is a bit worrisome, but I'd just get attacked for being negative, so I won't say it. At least until Coach L can't run a 5-on-5 practice again.
Sorry for your loss

what i also remember is the inability to field a 5 vs 5 practice for 2-3 years with all the "room to maneuver" (possibly more injuries than roster management to fault)

How much additional money does Ruiz have allocated to spend on Hurricanes student-athletes this year?

“We set a budget of about $10 million when I started for the year, but we’re not stuck at $10 million,” he said.

“I got contacted by agents,” he said. “The agents in the country know us already. Most of the time I get called now, [it’s after] the kid has pretty much decided he will come to UM. Whoever comes to Miami I will provide a fair market deal to.”

I think we're good.

I DO HOPE* you are RIGHT about that!

*He did say it in April 2022, when he had (reportedly) 111 UM athletes already signed to deals. (and)That was before the Cavinder-Katie issue, comments by Jim Boeheim and others, and the LW stock crash and what it might mean (discussed at length in the Football forum.)

You know Ruiz is going to do everything possible to get Wong to stay for one more go. Meaning he will offer more money and get more pieces in the portal to get Miami over that hump and play for a title.

I'd put all $10MM towards basketball, there is not a single player on the football team worth a dime right now.

I'm really NOT trying to be argumentative. But seems last year Wong wanted more and threatened to leave and Ruiz said no* and there was a lot of drama before Wong stayed...

...* so I quarrel a bit about Ruiz "going to do everything possible"... unless that is just about what funds his ailing company may allocate this year

...but I HOPE you are RIGHT!

Yeah I saw that. 10 million is really small potatoes to companies like Life Wallet.

If they're truly in trouble and collapse then we're done. But we've seen lots of companies lose value for whatever reason and then recover. We'll see what happens.
