Best Way to Attack Winston

For some reason i think Morris is gonna have a great game....just a feeling. I know he has been inconsistent but this guy has been on one ankle most of the season and i think he finally is back to where he is healthy. I still think FSU defense is overrated, somewhat like ours actually. The best way to defend Winston is to make them have to play against points, Not just jump out to a huge lead and call whatever they feel like. Our defense is perfect for him, he will have to show patience to beat us and I'm not sure he is there yet. Jenkins and Tracy should add to their pick totals in this game. Winston has a long wind up as well could be a factor. Nothing would be better to crash the party for all those who have been blowing him all season. We need to come ready to play in the trenches on both sides of the ball and i think the Florida game has done us a great job preparing us for the hitting. Not sure FSU has been physically challenged like that this year. BC did for a little but they are just not as talented

Best defense against Winston will be long, sustained drives by our offense.

Beat me to it.... Keep him off the field kinda what Wake did to us in the 1st quarter. Long sustained drives that end in points ( touchdown preferably) or a long drive and pin them deep in their territory. Force them to drive the length of the field.

The key to beating FSU in my opinion is not our defensive play. Its our offense. No turnovers, long drives, capitalizing and getting points

Said this already...somewhere. Nothing new. Like the 91 game, where Steve McGuire ran 30 times. I wish we had a Steve McGuire type back. I like Duke, but he's not quite as big or durable. Need near perfect execution by our OL and other blockers.

it's simple our db's and lb's can't run into one another trying to bring down a player and miss the tackle entirely; also no missed open field tackles on o'leary

I think we need to mix it up and tackle. Winston will throw some jump balls,like all the other noles did. The wide outs get a lot of yac! You have got to tackle well and lay the wood when gievn the chance.

Yep, gotta mix it up. He's very adept at having a pre-selected read when he sees the blitz coming. BC ran a lot of stunts/twists and disguised blitzes. They also ddropped 7 many times.

Fsu front 4 only has 3 or 4 sacks. We need to pick up blitzes well.

What defense did other teams run. Specifically what coverages?
Has Winston really had to read zones yet or has it been his WRs creating space and yac?

For example, Clemson runs a lot of nickel-man coverages.

What makes FSU defense overrated? They are settling in their scheme and is loaded on D. They dont have sack numbers because they dont have a great pass rusher but they do collapse the pocket and sometimes thats just as effective and for a qb like Morris who hates a crowded pocket that creates problems and panic.

We have to get pressure, IMO that means McCord and Muhhamad are on the field during some non-obvious passing downs. yes they might run at them, but we need those 2 to have the games of their lives.

They are very aggressive on D. True, they don't have a super threatening pass rush but that's why they bring LBs/DBs in to blitz. We have to capitalize on their aggressiveness.

First, Sir Winston is by all accounts the collegiate game's best, so there really is no way to attack him. But some thoughts - including a few good ones touched on above:
Need to tackle in space and be disciplined. This is what really stands out about Bama. They run to the ball and put people down on the spot and limit yards after catch. Need to button this up tight to have a chance.
To his credit, Winston is extremely accurate, even under pressure. So important to disguise and mix up coverages. Drop seven at times. Frustrate him and make him think. Get enough pressure in his face to make uncomfortable. Pick spots to blitz off the corner.
