Best Era of Dade County Football

Remember also that there has been a lot of reclassification in the 2000's with the addition of 7A and 8A and teams shuffling through.

The 90's almost all the powerhouses were in 6A so it was competitive as ****.

Good point. 2000s was filled with reclassifications - kind of diluted things across the board.

Also, concentration of power changed and recruiting started getting ramped up. That changed HS football for good.

Yep in 94 they added 6A and then in 2011 they went up to 8A. In the 90’s the strength was concentrated in 5A/6A. When they started reclassify schools in the 2000’s you started to see more Dade schools compete for State. Now that they went to the current system in 2011 you are seeing 3 to 4 Dade School’s a year compete at States. This doesn’t even include the broward schools like STA, AH or Chaminade.

You decide....

The 90’s was a really strong decade for Dade County. You had a lot of good teams but MNW, Carol City and Southridge were dominant. Carol City and MNW were in the same district. They were all 5A, the largest classification at the time until 94 when they all moved up to 6A.

90’s State Champions
Southridge 91, 93 runnerup in 94 and 99
Carol City 96, 97
MNW 95, 98

The 2000’s were elite but it was more spread out through more schools in 6A and other classifications.

6A State Champions
Norland 02 they were also runner up in 3A in 2010
Carol City 03
Killian 04
MNW 06, 07 (National Champs)
MNW State runner up in 01, 08
Central 10

BTW won 4A in 2007
Pace won 3A in 2003
Gulliver won 2A in 2000, runner up in 2008
Belen runner up in 3A in 2009

You didn’t include this decade but in the 60’s, district rivals Miami High and Coral Gables won 6 out of 10 National Championships in the decade.

Miami High 60, 65
Coral Gables 64, 67, 68, 69
I was going to say that about '60's Gables and MHS teams. Mythical national titles. Could never understand why that didn't translate into more national elite players out of Miami.

Too many of the stars from those teams went somewhere other than UM. Many went to UF.

MHS-Edison was a huge rivalry, used to pack the OB for that one.

Interesting that someone else remembered it.
