Beck and Ward Pre Miami Comparison and Perception of Beck's BAD SZN in 24

Petagna slighted our acquisition with a tweet about seeing the impact of Beck losing Bowers and McConkey and him being "best case scenario in a pedestrian QB market.

We are NOT ignorant fans as Canes. Please use the below comp to fuel data-infused retorts to all the silly slights out there about picking up the NUMBER ONE prospect in the portal.

We can't compare 2024 Carson Beck to 2024 Cam Ward, as I don't think that's fair. Ward also benefitted from a significantly better running game and WRs who secured passes instead of leading the nation in drops and dropped yards like UGA. D$, Gaby, and David Lake have all recounted that. Instead let's compare Beck's average season at UGA versus Cam's average season at 2023. Both had two full seasons at their prior stops.

UGA Beck Average Season: 3,700 yards, 26 TD's, and nine picks. 8th QBR in 2024, 7th QBR in 2023.

Wazzu Ward Average Season: 3,500 yards, 24 TD's, and eight picks. 50th in 2023, 60th QBR in 2022.

Let me be clear: I'm not suggesting AT ALL Beck is better or going to be better than Cam. However, to consume slights about him in media about "bad seasons" is ignorant. Use the data to be INFORMED hype artists this off-season.

LET'S GO, CANES!!!
It’s still not a fair comparison if you look at 2023 as opposed to 2024 because they just flip flopped. Beck in 2023 had an equivalent to what Cam had around him in 2024 at Miami. Cam had way less talent around him in 2024. So we should be comparing Cam’s 2024 year to Beck’s 2023 then things are closer to being equal including competition.

Beck’s numbers weren’t even that bad last year. He ranked 8th in QBR. There is no doubt if healthy he was one of tbe best options. The big question mark for us is are our new guys including jojo going to catch as well as X who had a huge role in this offense last year. I would would have liked a little more returning production in that room. Hopefully they add another reliable piece.

Isn’t that partly due to coaching?
I know most of it falls on the players if they freelance or don’t retain the coaching .
It would be partly on coaching if it wasn't being taught. That wasn't the issue. I saw with my own eyes kid dream was doing everything he could to work on their communication all the way down to simplifying things to where it was in zone's where the people that were communicating were passed down a line so you didn't have to key on one to two individuals in particular. It was simply players weren't retaining but they were being taught. At the end of the day heads gotta roll & there was several things Guidry was most certainly failing us at. But that wasn't one of them.

Execution or speed
One of the most important factors in execution is communicating with your teammates. Otherwise you constantly see people ****** up with their assignments and expectations of them from one call to the next. Majority of people at this level have plenty of speed to adequately do their jobs. When the words are tossed around football speed opposed to real speed like Chris Johnson has, it comes because people know exactly what they're assignment is. Opposed to second guessing all your reads. Key & strike. That's it.

I agree...but we definitely did not have speed on defense this year. Especially in our defensive backfield.

If I was gonna say anywhere we didn't have enough speed and that was one of the key factors in the units failure I wouldn't have said on the backend. I disagree we didn't have enough speed there. As a whole no one was slower than a 4.5 our issue wasn't getting beat on deep balls usually. It was we couldn't maintain the discipline on underneath and intermediate routes. Thats not speed. That's communication and technique. Now could we have been faster as a unit, yes absolutely. Just don't think it would've helped with that same group of players. The unit I'm saying speed was the biggest issue(and plenty of **** tackling from them as well factor in to go along with angles and eyes)was the lber room.

4.5 is average, not fast

The great John McKay...

They still haven't.

And you wonder why people think you are Miami-hating garbage.

We had the #1 offense in the country.

We had a 1,000 yard rusher and the next 2 guys combined for another 1,000 yards.

We had a 1,000 yard receiver and had FIVE receivers (4 WRs and a TE) go for over 500 yards each.

And yet your claim is that we did not have elite receivers or an OL.

Keep moping.
