Baylor Reportedly Not Allowing Releases From 2016 NLI (WOW!)

Those kids that want out, should be set free from their commitment. It's the right thing to do, however I wonder if there would be as much outrage in this board if we were the ones wearing that shoe.

One of the SI.com college football writers wrote an interesting column leading up to signing day this year. In the column he suggested that kids stop signing LOIs because the document gives the university all the power once signed. He said a kid can just sign his financial aid agreement that binds the school to the kid and not the kid to the school. If kids did it this way and a coach up and leaves or something happens after signing day then the kids have an avenue of recourse because they didn't sign the LOI.

Problem solved. Stop signing LOIs and just enroll when you're ready

Only the elite recruits could get away with not signing a LOI. What school is gonna save a scholarship for the 3 star kid when they can probably go find another one willing to sign.

You sign a Grant In Aid which BINDS the school to you, but not you to the school. That way your spot is saved and you can be recruited and free to go to any school until you enroll. If you sign a Grant In Aid the school can't move on.

Is it mandatory to send out a grant aid before the NLI? Only time I see kids sign/get the aid is when the school wants unlimited contact with them.

This was Baylor's highest ranked class ever and they're barely clinging onto relevance with briles being fired. Not shocked even if it's clearly wrong. Theyll be lucky to sign a low 3 star kid after this

That's a fair point. However the NLI was a school created document to lock kids into programs back in the 60's. It was a way to give smaller schools leverage on prospects 6-8 months before they were to enroll.

True if it was us and duke johnson and everyone wanted out we would be screaming

First of all Jim Grobe will make a heck of a coach for Baylor. He was unbelievable at Wake with little if no talent. We did the same thing with recruits when Jimmy Johnson left including Daren Krein. When they all met Erickson the problem went away.

He's a good coach, you're right. But that locker room and organization are gonna be a complete mess.

But can he recruit

Looking forward to Sports Illustrated's:

Why Baylor Should Drop Football cover

This is a terrible look for Baylor. I get it hurts losing recruits but it's messed up making kids stay to play for a coach that didn't recruit them.

"At bottom, the National Letter of Intent is a binding agreement that requires the school to provide the specified amount athletic-based financial aid for academic year (either two semesters or three quarters) and requires the student to attend the same institution for that same full academic year. Failure to complete the requirements of the agreement on the part of the student carries a penalty of a minimum of one full year of attendance at the next NLI institution attended and a loss of one full year of eligibility in all sports, not just the sport for which the NLI was signed."

If Baylor wants to play hardball, I would sit out a year.

Frankly, they would crush Baylor in a lawsuit. Baylor and the staff knew this was coming. It's fraudulent inducement.

They need to chance the NLOI rule.

If the head coach you signed with is gone before you enroll, you should be free to go wherever you want.

Further proof that Baylor only cares about keeping that football machine rolling. They built that giant stadium, and they started tasting some success after being irrelevant forever.

Baylor ain't doing **** to clean up that toilet. They sat on their dycks until it was crystal clear to the rest of the world just how incredibly egregious their disgusting actions have been.

They hired Grobe as a stop gap interim law and order puppet to get kudos from the lames in the media. It worked. In a year or two at most, they'll thank him and run him off in a pre-arranged deal where Grobe claims it was his decision to leave. Then they'll empty the coffers for Chip Kelly when he fails again, or they'll hire a Briles disciple.

They're just waiting for the braindead public to do what they always do--either forget about the debacle or start feeling sorry for Baylor if the NCAA whacks them.
