Just gotta realize the announcement ain't comin' til after Smith's bat signal. The wait can get frustrating otherwise. Gotta figure they jump in before Heat-Knicks tip.

100000% and I don't know why this is so **** hard for people to understand years into the social media era of recruiting. Seriously so many fans are so dumb it boggles my mind they can even navigate accessing the internet and reading posts on this site. Imagine if coaches took some of our fans advice and didn't make a big deal and build up hype on social media for an impending commitment just because the kid was only a 3 star or whatever. "Sorry, pal, we're privately glad you're committing and think you're underrated by the recruiting services but we will look like chumps if we hype you up on Twitter because you're not a big deal. Congrats on joining the family."

Great point. I hadn't even thought about "what if we didn't do this", but you're right.

I'm the first to admit, you are closer to this younger generation, you interact with them more, but I do know that a lot of them like to treat these postings as if it's "secret code" that they can use that most people won't understand.

Happy to see SO MUCH tweeting going on, even if some our fans are confused by it.

Separately, I was just texting with @RVACane and was joking about how long it took to get "registered" for classes back in the old days. With Summer A/B/C registration having been open since April, and with classes starting Monday, and with Portal guys potentially needing to get off-campus housing, what is a practical timeframe for getting these kids "officially" (or even unofficially) enrolled in the UM Registrar's computer system? I know that the athletic scholarship money needs to be credited to the student's account before they can pull out "overage" money for living expenses (or at least that's the way it worked not that long ago), so I was just wondering if these Portal guys are already "starting" to register this week ahead of classes starting next Monday.

Just curious why people are annoyed by this. These tweets are NOT meant for you, they’re meant for the kids.

Some of you are a little too emotionally involved. These coaches don’t care what you think. They’re doing this for the recruits and nobody else.

If you don’t like them, don’t look at them. Problem solved.
The things some people will complain about in here. Like I’ve been saying. This contingent doesn’t matter. They’re always miserable and complaining. Them and the attack dogs on the flip side can all leave.

Marketing, to a certain extent, yes, but mainly to potential recruits/transfers. It’s also done to encourage and reinforce interactions and conversations had with recruits/portalers. It’s all geared towards a specific audience, actual potential recruits or transfers. If it creates buzz among the fans, great. But I don’t think that’s the primary goal.

All of that. They're gassing up the kids some. The recruits know it's about them and it's just another way for the staff to show excitement/love. Like you said, we aren't the intended audience.

There is no "fake" bat signal. You all think this isn't coordinated? That a dude like Mirabal will throw outna bat signal and its not a sign that something happened? Same with Addae and the director of recruiting? They are pumping things up because that means they got a commit(s). All Smith does is post his "bat signal" an hour or so before the kids make it public. They are all real none are fake.

Some people just take it way too personal, or they complain because they know it’ll get attention (even if it’s negative).

Now we just sit back and let ‘em roll in all week long.

This is true(as long as it's coming from anyone on the staff). I personally just like to hype up Smith tweets because for some reason, he's the most hated on this site lol

Ya everything you wrote is part of marketing! You are just defining an audience. We're saying the same thing.

Look, Geo and possibly Brad started yesterday morning/lunchtime. Then a string of tweets throughout the day today. The 'real' (semantics) signal just occured in the sense that the edit will be popin' any minute now. So yes, it's all coordinated and it's for the kids. But for those who don't understand what's happening and when the announcement will actually appear it can be understandably frustrating.
