Barry Jackson article

Could the issue with Mullins be something as simple as concentration? Learning the playbook?

"Be more consistent" could mean a lot of things, but this doesn't set off alarms compared with guys who've been suspended like Haskins, Bruce, Irvin, Wright, James.

Plenty of praise for Perry all around though. I really hope he's a good one... if we can get quarterback settled-- I'll feel great about the season and barring some bad luck around or RBs and TEs I think we should be set up really, really well to succeed.

It does seem like every report we've gotten about Mullins since Day 1 has been about his inconsistency and tempering expectations. Rok may need to adjust his hot take. =P

I don't remember saying he would be anything special.

What I remember saying is that he and others who've arrived recently will eventually force Cager to pack his things and leave.

Eventually, coaches get sick of trying to cajole a kid into handling basic business, and they move on. There's too much quality depth at WR and too much more coming in for the coaches to continue wasting time trying to convince Mullins to do the basics and give effort.

I meant your hot take about which WR might transfer.

Oh, right. So many hot takes it gets confusing.

I'm not super high on anyone except Richards. I do think Berrios will play a lot.

Dallas, Thomas, Harley, Mullins have an element of explosiveness that will get them on the field.

I hope Cager becomes a great player but a lot has changed at WR since he got injured.

I'm a little worried about our WR's this year. I havent seen much from Cager. And relying on true freshman can be tough. Somebody needs to step up big time and take the attention off 82. Fall camp is gonna separate the dogs from the cats.

mullins was at bible study the other day, so baby jesus and his acolytes are going to be helping him from now on. he's good to go.

This latest quote about Mullins was made up by Barry imo. The coaches are on vacation so he's just regurgitating what he was told by Dugans in the spring.

Dugans after the spring:

“He's still maturing,” receivers coach Ron Dugans said. “I've just got to get him to play consistent. That's what you look for when you're going with the first group. Guys have to go out and perform in the run game and pass game. He's done a good job for us.”

today's "quote":

Even though receiver Dionte Mullins made progress this spring, a UM official cautioned against anointing him, noting his play leveled off late in spring. “I've just got to get him to play consistent,” receivers coach Ron Dugans said.

Might sound outrageous but Berrios is the likeliest guy to start alongside Richards imo.

Let talk about what else Berrios said ..... Joe Rose asked if the they are at a point where the whole team is working hard in the weight room... He says we are not there all the way as a team yet, we are getting close but not there yet!!! Alright fellas who are the players not working hard enough. I will start with the obvious D Mullins..... lets hear the boards thoughts???

We should all be happy that at least the preliminary evaluation of Nkosi is meeting expectation. Better than players and those in the know being unimpressed. All the kid can do for the time being is continue to practice and learn the playbook until the pads go on. Based on the chatter, IMO, if it's close coming out of fall then Nkosi will be the starter.

I think this will happen as well, I just wish he was a couple inches taller Lol

Be more consistent is a key word for if someone else shows that they are your regulated to bench warmer

Great catch. These beat reporters are struggling so much in June that they have turned to re-purposing old quotes for a new spin. SMH.

This is common practice. Has been for as long as I've been reading drivel from the Herald, Post, Sentinel. Barry didn't do anything sheisty or shady. It's what happens in the offseason lulls.

I'm going to tip my hat to you for an excellent catch.

This sneaky motherfūcker just recycled an old quote. For all we know Mullins is overcoming his consistency problems, but since Barry hasn't been on campus in two months, how would he know.

Exactly. How the **** would Dugans know if Mullins had made any progress since spring? The coaches are all on vacation and can't participate in any practices until fall. Everything going on now is voluntary and/or player run.

Mullins sounds like one of those cats who had it easy and wasn't asked to work hard in practice or in the classroom back in high school but balled when it was game time. Bad work ethic that followed him to this day.

However, I think he flashes this year and then tightens up come next spring showing "maturity" and breaks out his junior year because it's his money year.

I like to hear about what's happening during summer workouts, because it's all about the players bonding and making things happen.. And of course it's all about players making major improvements in the weight room as well, BUT for me I'm the type I "wait for the pads to come on" to make my judgements!! Right now it sounds good that Perry has come in and is working hard and bonding with his teammates, BUT I will wait to see how is doing when the defense is live and players are moving at 100%.. NOW don't take this as if I'm KNOCKING Perry, I just rather judge when things are for real and it counts, right now without pads on to me "it's not real".. I'm not a big fan of the 7 on 7 circuits or events, it's fun to watch BUT I would never judge a recruit or player off that, I rather watch game film and make my judgement!!

SO as for the summer, I'm happy to hear that players have come in and impressed BUT I will be waiting to see how our players perform this fall, when the pads come on and it's live!! Right now, I just want to hear that the players are putting on proper weight, getting stronger and also getting better with quickness and speed, this is what happens during the offseason "improve the little things"..

Even Jameis Winston redshirted at FSU. It's not a bad thing. Perry might walk away with the job if he doesn't make freshman mistakes in practice, or he might need some time to adjust to the speed of the college game. I'm fine either way. He's a very talented young man.
