Seriously. If you read that ESPN article on Ed Reed his former teammates recounted numerous plays he made from picking up tendencies on film and in games. How are our starters supposed to ascend to that level and make those sorts of reads if they are getting pulled every other series.

You and I are the same my man. That’s my logic behind it also.

Maybe they aren’t good enough to separate from one another? Maybe he can’t see it? Maybe he can and I’m dumb as a box of rocks..lol..I dunno man. Coach scares me.

If Carter is starting at safety, I wonder who plays that role of a blitzing safety on 3rd and long. Carter was awesome at that last year. Maybe he still does that and Smith replaces him at the natural safety spot.

DBs have to be on the same page on the field. That's established through continuity and repetition. Unless the defense is on the field for an extended drive and a player is gassed, there shouldn't be a lot of rotation on the back end of the defense.

I kind of feel you especially on the zone but if Amari, Gurvan, Bubba, and Smiff are balling you rotate those boys for sure no reason not to stay fresh if those guys all can play to a high standard

If they can play to a high standard - I agree.

But, if you have an absolute game changer, or a much better player on the field, do not rotate just to rotate. And absolutely DO NOT rotate a weak player in while the opponent is in the red zone and the game is on the line. (Knowles FSU 2017).

How many times did Dan Morgan, or Ed Reed, or... come of the field when it mattered? Think about that - AND - the fact that Butch had some of the best conditioned teams we’ve ever had....

don't assume the quality of an individual coach rises or falls with the quality (or reputation) of an overall program.

probably one of the best coaches i ever met, spent his entire career in the ivy league and never had any desire to leave, even though he had multiple NFL offers throughout his career.

there are great coaches at every level, and sh*t coaches at every level.

examples of coaches who were great, and had amazing reputations, and you may not have ever heard of them:

carm cozza (Yale)
gary fallon (Washington & Lee)
george smith (st. thomas aquinas HS)
wright bazemore (valdosta HS)
david hixon (amherst)

examples of coaches who sucked mooseco*k, but somehow made the it to top programs, and are names you know:

paul williams (UM)
rich kotite (NY Jets)
les steckel (Minn. Vikings)
rod dowhower (colts)
charlie weis (notre dame)

i could go on, but you get the point. don't confuse the job with the man.

Rather its based on facts regarding his actual employment history and long affiliation with Richt.

It looks like Felder was with Richt at UGA for 2 years, recognizing that it was as an asistant strength coach.
If there were criticisms of Felder at UGA I havent seen any.
Seems odd that Richt would have kept him on staff at Georgia for 2 years and then hired him here for another 3 years -- 5 years total -- if there were issues with his strength training and conditioing of players.

I also don't recall anyone crticizing Felder while he was employed here.
Ironically, my recollection is just the opposite, people were bashing Swasey and actually praising Felder.

I don't see it as a Golden / Donofrio loyalty thing either and note that Richt has parted ways with staff members before (Initially, Kuhl, comes to mind although some will say Kuhl left on his own. Pruitt is another example).

Hence my comment about reconciling how there would be such a disparity (and I'm not singing Felder's praises or critciizing him).

At the very least Bub should be stout on special teams this year. I hope hes a gunner on kickoff.

Once Bubba gets acclimated to the playbook and gets in football shape he will be a heck of a lot more than that.

I don’t think it’s that serious. Quan and red 150 tackles between them. Red had more than the other safeties combined and he only had 60 some. Pretty sure he’s just talking about getting breathers so the starters aren’t getting gassed. And he can’t be all that bad. Secondary has the most drafted players of any group since Bandas been here. And they had but one 4 star among them. He’s much better than I think were giving him credit for.

Banda didn’t mold any of those guys. He came into a situation with a talented room. Every safety drafted was 2nd or 3rd player when he got there. If he’s making statements about rotating 6 days into camp than that’s not great distinguishing as a coach. I don’t believe we have 4 starters

Outside of DL, I always thought we rotated too much without rhyme or reason. The starters are starters for a reason and we aren’t even close to the point where were “stacked“.

Look at LSU last year on their big run early. We had backups in at DL, LB (Jennings), and DB (Knowles).

Look I'm not saying we can't spell a guy on a long drive. If a guy has a couple long sprints on deep ball coverage and needs a breather that's understandable but rolling players to stay fresh as a daisy just isn't the way that position is managed even if you do have four capable guys.

Someone is going to step up and whoever that is should be getting the majority of the snaps. It's nice to have four guys that wont hurt you but it's much better to have guys back there who wont hurt you and can make game changing plays. The play makers should play the majority of the snaps.

I don’t believe I was on this site when Gus was hired. I complained often via Hurricane text groups. “We look soft. We play soft. We play too slow here...” Often.
