Bad news on Hooks

my thing is he planned his visit for a while so i'd think his transcripts came in before now and being bought and paid for maybe but i doubt it i'm just saying he was so close to the staff they would've known his academic qualifications before the day he arrives to the campus maybe i'm just being an optomist but i dont think its over yet

That's pure conjecture. We've had kids in the past who were all signed, sealed and delivered and their academic qualifications dragged on for months. Leslie Shepherd back in the late '80's comes to mind. Heck, we even had Dan Sileo in school for a year before we discovered that he was ineligible for his second year. We found out about that just before the '87 season started and had he played we never would have had that '87 NC. That's why I think Dan Sileo is one of the biggest idiots walking the face of the earth.

I doubt that the admissions office process has changed that much and there is still a lot of work to do in that office before we can take a kid, especially a JUCO. Over the years, admissions has killed a lot of kids. I wouldn't blame them. You can't talk about our school being superior to others and on the other hand complain when we have tougher admission standards. JUCOs are often a problem. They can be a real pain to get them in.

For all the Golden has done for this program and his commitment to see this through I'm sure the admissions dept wouldn't shaft him like that. If we don't get high impact big uglies now due to admissions casualties then we won't ever get back. Get his *** in the program on academic probation and let's get this **** rollin'

YES! Please flacking a!

maybe im tripping but maybe it actually is about the finals i mean i got finals right now myself so why is it imposssible that he couldn't reschedule doing his finals? let's just wait maybe we still get the visit just hold on

Not a chance bro. He scheduled the visit and all of a sudden he don't make it. Now he has finals. It's to save face that's all. It's one of two things. Either he was told he can't get in academically or he's bought and paid for. I think it's the first. Like I said last year it was almost the same story with the Juco kid Salt except he wasn't leaning toward Miami like Hooks which hurts.

Admissions: It happens every year.

Agree 1000% with this. Getting JUCO DTs in this class is crucial to us beat Fsu or UiF next IMO. Unless our youngins develope into pro bowlers next year which I doubt. There is no freshmen DT that can make a pro bowl impact. Gotta land Hooks and Bond they are very important just like 6 AC and Bryant all future studs.

Devestating loss our defense will be the exact same with no push in the middle no matter how many studs we have in the back 7, just hoping that a DT emerges thats all we can hope for I guess.

Disagree 999% with this. Forget Pro Bowl. We are not talking NFL here. You honestly think Hooks would start over Porter or Pierre? If you do may I remind you about the last JUCO DT we signed who everyone thought was Warren Sapp.
Bond is an OLB. You put him over Denzel and EJ? As a DE you put him over Chick, Green, Jelani, McCord? No way.
Right now while we are reading and typing our defense is probably lifting huge amounts of weight and training to be the best and will be for the next 8 months.
I'm not saying we will have a top defense next year, but in the top 50 is perfectly reasonable. A top 50 defense with the offense we bring back is going to make Miami a dominant team, and I don't mean ACC dominant, I mean nationally dominant.

Darius Smith and Lavon Hooks don't belong in the same sentence...two COMPLETELY different players

JUCO's come into programs and make an immediate impact all the time. That is their draw, they usually have two years of lifting and overall physical maturity on true freshmen. Just because we've had a few duds from the JUCO ranks has nothing to do with right now.

And how can you sit here and list all these guys that are locked into their positions? We finished in the 100s in defense. You're acting like we had a top 10 unit with a bunch of kids who are firmly cemented in their roles after proving they can ball. We finished in the **** 100s. Hooks would help immediately. Anyone would. We have a huge talent deficiency on defense. Any talent that can immediately contribute would get on the field.

Name me one JUCO DT who came in and made an all conference team. Not an All American team an all conference team.
I'm sure somebody will come in and name 5, maybe 6 but that's how rare it is.
Any JUCO wouldn't be competing against true freshmen. They would be competing against sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Talent isn't the problem with our defense. It's talent running the wrong way.
The way you guys talk about Hooks, the guy better be Cortez Kennedy to live up to the expectations.
We bash Darius Smith now, but when he signed he was our run stuffer for the next few years.
I think Hooks is a good player, but you guys are acting like without him our defensive line will be crap.
Can our D-line get any worse than last year? Probably not. Was it a lack of talent? NO, it was a lack of developed talent.
As I've said, give these guys time to develop and they are going to prove you all wrong.

You guys act as if last year's defense was a surprise. They were exactly what I thought they would be: a young defense that showed flashes of greatness overshadowed by periods of inexperience. When you look out on a defense and seemingly everytime you see 5-6 freshmen or first time players, you know you are going to be in for a rough time.
I see a bunch of real young players who flash and need to be more disciplined. Who need to make the other team beat us instead of running everywhere but where you are supposed to go and beat yourself.
As for immediate help, like new players who are going to start next year, start getting yourself used to the fact that that is not going to happen.
Not because we won't sign some great players. We will. But because you cannot expect freshmen or JUCO DT's to come into a high level D1 program and dominate when they have NEVER been exposed to the type of speed, size and strength they will encounter.
For JUCO's the leap is just as big as for Freshmen.

Saban & Terrence Cody, for example
