Bad day for a lot of NFL Canes

Some of you need to chill out. Some of these guys will get picked up or placed on practice-squads. You've gotta remember that sixteen games of 260-pound guys crashing into each other means that phone calls will go out during the season . Injuries will happen and agents will be waiting with their cellphones.

Just a normal cut-down weekend.

Quite a few made PS, but there is not much money.

Gaines, Gunn, Regis, Byrd, Robinson, Ford, Cleveland, Swoope and Harris hanging on for now

Roller coaster for Asante Cleveland yesterday. The 49ers initially signed him to their practice squad, then told him they changed their mind and were moving in a different direction. Later in the day they changed again and brought him back.

He caught a nice touchdown pass in the first quarter of the final preseason game. Grabbed it near the right sideline and had enough quicks and agility to shake the defender and stay in bounds. Looked more like his freshman year than any time since. IMO we really wasted Cleveland by having him gain so much weight later in his career. He was bottom heavy and borderline worthless. The Asante Cleveland from that preseason game should have been a considerably above average collegiate tight end. Lots of 49er players were congratulating him on the bench in animated fashion after the touchdown.

lots of practice squad players
Cleveland made a good impression on the 49ers organization and that's a tough TE depth chart to crack. Whatever he did this offseason definitely worked.

edit: didn't see the last post. Well said

It's basically the starting lineups of the 2012-13 Canes. It's staggering.

But hey at least Donna looks good with her APR and grad rates. You people are fools if you think these kids are better off with their meaningless degree than they would have been if they were in a program that actually cared about developing talent. Shalala pats herself on the back, but when this many kids from one period are failing, it means their program failed them.

Their degree means about as much as one from any football school; not much. Stop thinking that Donna did these kids a service. They came here on the promise of winning and developing, and our admin failed an entire generation of Canes in those respects, while cashing TV game checks and reporting APR results.

I'm DONE blaming the 18 year olds for the failures of the adults. This **** is sad.

What a total load of crap. Do you really believe the **** you just posted, or are you trolling?

These guys know going in that only a handful of players make it to the NFL. Something like 2% of all CFB players. So don't give me this crap that it's Donna's and Al's fault.

You want to change the system? Do away with CFB entirely and make a minor league system in which these kids don't have to get a degree. Till then, you're **** right that Donna and all the other presidents are doing these kids a favor.

College degrees are less and less worthwhile. Too many people going to college, end up with jobs for which a degree was or still is unnecessary. Millenials living in parents' basement. Many should learn a trade for which there still is a demand. I don't even know if you need a degree to be a HS coach. Look at Ice.

Well I hope this was a lease. Oh well, at least he didn't re-injure those glass ankles for us by taking any unnecessary hits. Gotta look on the bright side.

His family has money.

He does now too.

100K + for 17 weeks work plus per diem.

Not NFL salary, but a lot better than 99.99% of the millions of kids who just graduated from college, and a **** of a lot better than the over 1200 former college football studs who got whacked from NFL teams since the start of training camp.
