As we enter meltdown mode- a reminder, just two years ago.

Year one with a bunch of kids that quit

And although that was extreme, year ones seldom mean anything. Especially when there is a huge change in coaching styles (CMC and CMD could not be more different)

Get a grip.

Year 1 essentially cost Diaz his job. His 8-3 year 2 didn't mean much to fans or the admin (the regular non covid schedule would have resulted in a 10 win season IMO) . When Diaz got off to a rocky start in year 3, he was all but fired halfway through the season even though the team rallied and ended up the last 6 of 7. 7-5 isn't great, but 8-3 then 7-5 doesn't usually get a coach fired. Year 1 loomed large over the decision.

Definitely different coaching styles. Only one guy had the whole team quit on him.

That’s without Kavon Thibedoux and a host of other starters.

CIS at times is worse than CNN and Fox News combined. Sides desperately trying to convince others a certain narrative.

Let's just pull out the receipts on the New Hire poll back when MC was hired. That's the allegiance answer no matter how bad it is on the field or recruiting. You can't talk sense to the other side.

It crazy how this fanbase doesn't understand the nuances of building something. We act like we were perennial 9-10 team that plateau and needed different leadership to get us over the hump.

That like taking over a department with ****** culture, no processes, a QC that pencil whips, etc. Then expecting the next guy to fix it by next quarter.

You ever wonder why we couldn't lure elite coaching here in one the most fertile recruiting beds? The came in and inspect it and realized we had termites throughout the house, and the admin told them their budget was $1000 and $50 Long John silver gift card. They told them I am good.

Those Diaz teams were terrible, Lashlee masked a lot of problems, but you notice when we played a team that could punch back, we folded like Abertsons. I am still in the fence about coaching prowess, but I do realize he probably had to strip the house down to framing.

We'll see this year. History has shown Mario has always improved in year 2.

Nominate for stupidest post of the year! One has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the other. OSU just picked up Scott and are in the driver's seat for Stewart and Lightfoot, contrary to what the experts here may say

Absolutely, way too much hype.

Remember our “expectations” when we had the first coaching change. Players have to buy in…recruits have to get to know who is recruiting them now, etc etc.

Now, due to a debacle of a season I haven’t seen since arguably 1997, despite a few other bad records, we are shocked with an entirely new staff (almost) in one year and trying to replicate on the defensive side of the ball what our OL head coach accomplished on the offensive side the year before?

These aren’t excuses..with a $80 million contract, there should be zero excuses..but they are facts.

I think he’ll close fine, not where we want to be, but I’m just saying it might have been pie in the sky anyway given last season and the coaching overhaul.
Perfectly said my friend!

Diaz had zero years of HC experience when he was hired. He was a bad choice but it was made nonetheless, so he deserved time to figure things out - something I would say for any first time HC at any program. UM was competitive and fun to watch in year 2. As for getting pushed around - maybe he tries to fix that in year 4 with a OC and OL coach that have a more physical style.

As for losing to every team that punched UM in the mouth - you think the 11-3 Pitt Panthers were soft?

Also, 2020 was not a terrible team.

If UM is going to continue being cheap (which looks to be the case with NIL), then why invest in an 80 million coach who needs a ton of resources to be successful? Diaz was at least inexpensive, and UM could take the salary savings and try to get him a better staff and players.

We're "house poor" right now - nearly every cent appears to be tied up in Cristobals contract and now it looks like we don't have enough money for groceries and the water bill.

NIL isn't up to UM, and they can't take any 'savings' to get him better players.
