We got our QB and a studly secondary, plus a stacked DL. Here's what we need to beat ND at the beginning of next season:
  • The #1 thing is a solid DC. We get that and we are really cooking because we already have enough talent to have a very good D under the right leadership.
  • A veteran MLB to replace Kiko.
  • One solid (but not necessarily a starter) RB to give us a solid 5 RB's.
  • Maybe one more vet WR, but unlike many, I actually really like our WR room with the addition of CJ.
What would you add or subtract?

DT. If we have a couple injuries (Blay, Moten) we will be relying very heavy on very young guys without a lot of experience.

personally some of these can/should wait until Spring ball and some are just a pipe dream :

Starting WR - some of the young guys might still need a year ( Chance, Carr) and some might be jags ( Ray Ray)
Starting LB - can upgrade both LB positions as Popo and Wes are average. Wiley could take reps early.
Starting safety - Lucas maybe?
Backup RB- find the Allen replacement the same way you found Allen.
DE- if you can get a Baron caliber type of player great, if not just pray for someone to step up to get 5ish sacks opposite Bain.
Backup OT- if any highly rated OT’s hit the portal, would love to try to get into the mix and get a replacement for Francis when he bounces.

Yeah, I would definitely add an OL if someone of real quality becomes available and has at least 2 years of eligibility. Otherwise, I'd just hold fast and load up next season.

Steve Brule What GIF

Another 315-340lb DT

A WR 1 or WR 1.5

Another 230lb RB that has produced at the P4 level

I don’t know how our DEs are developing but I want to see a 240lb speed WDE getting consistent pressure. If the young guys aren’t developing then bring someone in. Mesidor needs to play outside next season as well and Bain needs to drop about 15 lbs.

And Lucas if he enters

The slot position at will be open for grabs, and it’s btw Ray Ray and NY Carr. IMO, I don’t think they r the answers. A WR 1 be great and if that guy is an outside WR move JoJo to the slot.
OT- I would go with a starter caliber OT
DE would be great- but iI think they are fine there rn, it will depend on if Medford leaves and/or Bain gets move to DT.

- Top-notch portal WR
- Stud LB
- Run-stuffing DT
- Another CB, preferably Lucas
- Another RB for depth
- Another viable pass-catching TE
- Another quality OL or 2 that have multiple years of eligibility remaining

And it goes without saying Mario needs to hit a homerun with the DC hire

Gimme the top 5 and a good DC = next year should be very interesting

OP, good topic. Given I attended the ND/PSU game last night my .02 are as follows:
1. We need more on Defense. Lumping three: Edge Rusher, Vet ILB (230/240lbs), CB/S whether it's Lucas or someone else.
2. Vet #1 WR
3. RB
