Artie Burns

Didn't see Artie much against UF, save for special teams.

He looked very aggressive against FAU, which is rare to see from a CB.

I like him alot at Corner. don't make him hit or think, just let him run and completely blanket one side of the field

Burns has the highest ceiling of any CB we have. BUT lets see how he does when the bullets start flying before we crown him better then Crawford and before we start "penciling him in as a starter next year". Dortch and Crawford will have alot to say about that. I just want him to learn this year while getting game exp. Then fight to be AT WORST the Nickel guy next year. He will be a full time starter by his JR year which is how this whole thing should work. I fully expect Crawford and Howard to be our corners next year.

The guys who really need to start turning that corner or they will be left playing DIME duty their whole careers is Dortch and Hope. And I really like Dortchs measurables but the light needs to come on for him at some point.

I'm gonna be in the minority saying this for sure, but I think Burns jumps crawford in the depth chart within the last four games

Burns may be coming for everyone's job, kid showed cover skills against FAU that I haven't seen here in a long time. Kid is an elite athlete on top of that.

Definitely some overreaction in here on Crawford. He got picked on a bit in the Florida game, but he'll be fine. He does a good job of staying on the receivers hip. As port Knox pointed out, he needs to do a better job of turning his head around and locating the ball. He's usually in good position, he's just a little apprehensive. That usually happens when ur scared to get beat. Can't play scared out there

JMO but I think Crawford is going to be just fine. He's taking some lumps but he has also had some nice plays out there, not unlike Tracy last year. The secondary is very exciting
Off topic but when Jenkins got that pick Crawford put in a burst like **** fast, Jenkins should of pitched that **** and he was off to the races.

Which is even more rare to see from a freshman. I think it's what allowed Gunter to shoot up the depth chart while some others lagged behind. Besides talent, he played fearlessly which you don't see too often with young guys more worried about making mistakes.

Pretty sure this is only the 3rd year or so that Crawford has played the position as well. He's more of an athlete playing the position and as we saw from a guy like McGee, sometimes that takes time. Crawford will be a key part of this team in the future even if he is passed up on the charts by a phenom like Burns.

Man I said the same ****... would of been Ed Reed esk...

just a question, since I remember artie burns getting tons of praise as a safety as well as corner (i think by deon sanderes at a camp or maybe at UA practices or something?). does he have a better future as a lock down corner or as a safety? obviously our staff sees him as a cb and thats where he has started, so i would think that means cb. but the thought of having someone so fast and athletic with great instincts at safety to complement quality cb's makes me wonder how he would do there. with deon, rayshawn, and jamal carter, we probably need him as a lockdown corner more than a safety, but i was just curious what you guys thought

I think Artie has a higher ceiling at safety but CB is the more valuable position on a defense and he can play it just as well with his high end athleticism and measurables. He will probably stay at CB but he has the aggressiveness and skill to be a top flight Safety. Hope that makes sense

Somebody needs to push crawford because he's looked bad. When in position he loses the ball. He seems sluggish and panicky. Unfortunately if there's one thing we've learned it is that experience seems to carry weight in this defense. Thus it is probably not burns' time. But somebody needs to push crawford and either take his spot or force him to pick his game up. They'll start interrogating this next week I'm sure.

Honestly, I don't want any freshman starting for us, no matter how talented.
Hopefully those days are over.
Give the kiddies reps in games like savannah state, where our walk ons could probably dominate, and then reps in garbage time.
Everybody sees the potential in a lot of our freshmen, but talent can only take you so far.
Last year's defense was the perfect reason why freshmen should never start.
