Article: MNW sack master Smith transitioning to LB

247 has him at 230. lol Keep hearing he's undersized

I guess you just skimmed over the part of the article where he mentions his exact weight, not some guess from watching tape

"I'm just trying to bulk up and gain a lot of weight to make my hit power stronger. I'm in the 205-210 range right now," said Smith.

So yes, he is undersized at this point, but a very good talent. Hopefully he shows well in coverage and will get that offer.

Going into his senior year, and the reality that he would be a perfect fit as an OLB in a 3-4, or a rushing end on 3rd down in a 4-3, he seems to be just fine at the 205-210 range right now. With McCord, Bond, Figueroa, and Holliett(think AQM ends up soley a DE here) on deck, the kid would get a redshirt and by the time he steps on the field he should be in the 230-240 range.

Im sure he can get up there in weight, although I dont know anything about his frame. I'm simply pointing out what he currently weighs as a poster seemed to be confused about that, even though the kid said it himself.

Louisville, West Virginia, Marshall? How are the kids grades?

major flag right here

I don't know what his grade situation is looking like, but if you are making that assumption based on the offers, then you shouldn't worry too much about it at this point. Those are all schools that typically offer South Florida kids very early on in the process. Remember he has a Clemson offer too.

Peter, Clemson was the worst school in the ACC prior to Louisville joining. It does look like a pattern... Smith is the kind of local kid that goes to another school because we didn't recruit him hard enough, then ball's out. I'm okay with waiting until June camps to offer, but if he wins MVP, then we need to keep him home. Wasn't Hurley's last job to make sure our recruits had the right plan to pass admissions and the clearinghouse? If so, I hope Smith is one of our targets.

just sayin'.

But getting back on topic, this kid had 18 sacks last year. Its clear that he's having a ton of success putting his hand on the ground and rushing the passer. I'm not sure if I agree with him changing positions....especially if he's relying on Uncle Luke to teach him to play it lol. Just continue to add weight and dominate....play towards your strengths, not your weaknesses.

aint nothing wrong with seeing how the kid looks a LB since thats where he will be playing at the next level

This kid seems like one we won't offer until we see him at our camp in the summer.

With that said, we should offer now.

Not really... Those schools take flyers on undersize linemen... That can also explain why their defense struggles at times... I seen all of those teams play and their linmen are pretty small with the exception of WVU because we all know that they do not field a defense...

Wow, that's shocking. I had no idea. Thanks for correcting me, Valid

Just watched this tape, ****! Reminds me of the stud DE from WVU, name escapes me. Gotta sign this guy up. Have Artie shed some light...wait never mind.

Or he could be the Weaver Bros. They were similiar to this kid in HS as well. I am very weary of guys like this. If we have alot of extra scholies to give out or if he gains a little weight and balls out at the camps then fine. But I am still a little skeptical. And the coaching staff must be too. The kid has good film I must admit tho. And he is a hometown kid.
