Article: Miami Land's ACC's Top Class in Bittersweet Signing Day.

Yeah the classes meh. Even watching Mario's press conference compared to the other ones He's trying to reassure us that there's another signing Day.

We got some very good top end talent that could potentially develop into solid starters /ALL ACC types⬇️⬇️

Jaboree Antoine
Malachi Toney
Josh Moore

there is a lot of "potential" and "projection" type players. Good thing is that they got the body type not like
in the past when you had these projects that were midgets with zero measurables.

Now that signing day is over though, Miami will have a bag left over for not overspending on

DJ Pickett
TJ Alford
Jarquez Carter
Ben Hanks

three of those four were battles down the stretch and the only way you land them is big time $$$$ because I can assure you the bidding war was real.

But now we go into the portal with our portal resources+the money we didnt spend in recruiting.

If In Miami use that money to:

- Bring in two safeties with proven production

- Invest in two elite corners

- Bring the QB

-Bring the Liberty OL

- A solid MLB to
compete with Popo

that can get you better results than overpaying for unknown quantites that are true freshmen.

I think what we will start seeing from now on is teams using the big $$$$ to go portaling for proven multi year starters and the high school bags are going to start slowly but surely depereciating.

If a guy like Nico at UT and the Michigan QB that cost $13 Mil end up being MID then why invest so much into unproven talents when there are dudes out there that have a track record of proven production?

I think Miami can benefit a bit by having a little extra $$ to throw at the portal and gear up for a great 2026 class especially if they do something that hasnt been done since 03/ Win 10+ games in back to back seasons.
 
This class has some players like SJ and Lowe who should be difference makers…. A few very high ceiling players like Wiley, Pringle and Slime…plus nickel is probably the best QB recruit we’ve gotten out of the HS ranks in awhile


Will be interesting to bump this thread in a couple of years and see how it went… a lot of developmental Oline that i suspect we never see on the field and slowly transfer away

With everything you said - just would add that we also need at least 1 portal WR for the outside to compete with Brown/Chance/JoJo and Moore.

I appreciate your breakdown. That said - some of these would be posted in a tears thread here if this was a rival's signing day output and projections.

Yes.. I do think that we need to continue recruiting at the elite level but man. Miami needs to win games and show real improvement. A one off 10'win season wont cut it if we go back to 8-4.

Years before eveen up to last year, high school recruiting was the primary way of acquiring talent. We just Colorado completely ignorre
recruiting 2 years in a row and finish in the top 25 after being a what 1 -2 win team?

The real $$$ is in multi-year proven commodities where the investment will play dividends and not end in the red. We are paying one of our OL an insane amount of money to sit on the bench when we could be using that money to help our roster with proven dudes.

That's why a recruiting loss in the portal era is not as bad as before it can even be a bit beneficial.

That Pickett recruitment for example
I believe Miami could have won it had they offered 15-20% more than what LSU offered but then that would have taken resources away.

And then what? How much is Pickett going to really help Mario next
offseason? How much did a guy like Josisha Trader or Ny Carr or even Justin Scott help as freshmen? He needs to win NOW and he needs to invest in proven winners mitigating losses as much as possible. In years past where the portal wasnt this Pickett would have had 2-3 years to really develop and the recruiting classes were his main threat to upstage him. A freshman who doesn't know the program trying tk catch up to him. Now?? Pickett comes in and there are better options already on the table: proven Multi year starters or star juniors ready to give you almost guaranteed production and value for your buck. That element was not there like it has been the last two years.. I think people are now starting to realize this as their recruiting investments get rugged like a Hawk TuaH meme coin

I am also happy with their QB aporoach bring in solid dudes like Emory
and Nickel let then develop for a reasonable price and not kill yourself and your budget with a 5 star+
that probably wont play or
will be MID at best.

Amen. That is right. We need to be able to consistently and quickly adapt to the use of the portal. It is smart to not get overleveraged, but only if you then use that money wisely. To your point -- missed evals are deadly, when they come at a high price tag. Lack of development becomes a sinkhole, too. But the portal has changed things.

Even the mindset on CIS finally that just because Butch didn't use the portal, doesn't mean there is only one "right way" to manage a roster in 2024.

Portal time. Do it. Quickly. Fire the staff you are firing. There will be no grace if you don't build your 2025 defense because you kept your staff or kept them too long before firing them -- nope -- not for the 3rd DC in 4 years if that is the course.

One thing we need to see is more urgency. I respect Mario’s process at times but we can’t be dragging out staff changes and the portal. Thank god the Cam situation worked itself out but that was a dangerous game we played especially since Poff was a horrible eval

But anyway you get it. Teams have been tampering for a long time now and it’s gonna be a Black Friday Best Buy back in the day door opening scene

23 class is not looking too hot right now.

Will give him till the end of their junior year to be fait but
concerning..
 
if Luke nickel ends up being great it wont be considered a lackluster class

if we nail it out of the park with the transfer portal it also wont be either.

I agree with all of this and have had the same thought since the portal really opened up. You can prove thia with ROI, guarantee it's way higher on portal players. Like you said above, i think high school players will start getting less until they prove they're worth it.
