What those top 4 have in common is they are all in no-fault states, which generally have much higher auto insurance rates than states that just follow general negligence principles. The primary driver of that is medical expenses.

Today, you can do almost anything in NYC. Yeah, they'll process you, but the judge will ROR you (release on recognizance) , or even worse, a cop will write a DOT (desk appearance ticket).

Cops bust criminals, and usually charge accordingly. DAs get the case, and reduce the charges, usually offering insane plea bargains (slaps on the wrist). This is how they cook the crime stats and numbers. They basically reduce felonies to misdemeanors (or throw the case out entirely) and say, "look, crime is down." LOL. Been doing this for decades. They use this stupid system called "comp stat." In theory it's awesome, but in practice it's a crock of ****. Ultimately, you have to trust cops, lawyers, and politicians, lol. GMAFB.

As a former Asst DA in Atlanta, let me know when you want to have a conversation so you can better understand what you are describing from the outside looking in. I’m not saying that you are completely wrong as to everything you write, just a lot of it and I’m willing to educate you as to how the criminal justice system works in a metropolitan area if you would like.

But I will say one thing. Statistics aren’t kept like you think they are to say “look, crime is down”. Stats are kept as to the number of cases that are indicted, and the rate of successful prosecutions of those cases. Prosecutors have never dismissed cases and argued “look, crime is down”. That is a preposterous argument to make. Indeed, there is great pressure in every DA’s office to successfully prosecute cases because the stats are kept. Prosecutors will absolutely be fired if they take your approach.

Anyway, if you want the truth and are willing to be educated, reach out to me and I will answer every question you have.

I trust things are very different in the south than up here in NYC. Perhaps you prosecuted felons in NYC, and have some incites about the issues up here. I'm all eyes and ears, so please do educate me on this.

Scumbags like Alvin Bragg (Manhattan DA) and his crew of far left lunatics have pushed for bail reform laws. Violent criminals are sprung free daily. Most walk with without bail. The recidivism is off the charts.

Then we read and hear about politicians gloating about crime being down on subways, etc., often citing "comp stat" as their data point.

I'd love for someone to break this down, and explain how I'm off on this, because criminals are charged with felonies, are sprung without bail, and more often than not, have their charges reduced (or thrown out altogether). Then we read about crime being down, only to learn some scumbag that should have been on Rikers robbed someone, or raped, or killed someone. Happens alllllll the time.

I'd appreciate reading your views on this...

**** that bull****. He broke into someone's home as well. He risked death for, what, a joyride? I don't care how much time he does, I have no sympathy. Don't try to minimize this as "he stole some cars".

A couple of things here.

First, it is possible to reform cash-bail laws for non-violent crimes without extending those policies to violent crimes.

Second, I'm still not sure how people think that violent offenders can't make bail anyhow. For most (not all), cash-bail is a mere speed bump to be navigated.

And to be clear, I am not advocating for "high bail" or "no bail". Yes, it sucks that a person who has been arrested for a serious and/or violent crime can be walking around within a few days. I get it, but then again, our legal system claims "innocent until proven guilty", so I'm not sure why people expect that those arrested for crimes will sit in jail until trial.

As for recidivism, that's a separate issue. As is the issue of having charges reduced/thrown out. I've had friends who are/were prosecutors in a number of cities, including NYC. No prosecutor WANTS to reduce charges or throw them out. Sometimes the police work is not to the level that will support a conviction, particularly when the defense attorney is a highly-paid non-PD. And we cannot ignore the fact that the system is overburdened, there are NOT enough judges, prosecutors, and DAs. Populations are increasing, resources and staffing are not.

It is easy to focus on Step 1 of a process (cash bail) and to overlook Steps 2-100. That is not a personal criticism or anything, that is just reality.

First time I’ve truly disagreed with you. Context is everything. And I don’t know all the context here. But a young guy who steals a Lambo should not go to jail for life based on that action alone. That’s something Singapore would do not the US. And I think it goes down to our founding values which are built on Judeo-Christian philanthropy and Humanism. We believe in redemption and reformation.

The reality of the situation is the citizens of NYC (and lots of other areas) have absolutely NO FAITH in the NYPD, DAs, and / or Judges to do their respective jobs - prosecuting criminals, and getting them off the streets.

Almost every single day we are reminded that some scumbag recidivist committed a heinous crime against an innocent person, were recently let out of jail with no bail, and has some insane number of arrests.

While there may be some rational explanation for all this, the masses aren't trying to hear it. The people have zero faith. I sure as **** don't.

Argue away, but criminals are running amuck, and making a mockery of the judicial system. Complete mess.
