Armondo Blount (not hurt, not in portal)

Definitely hope he gets into the Rotation. Bain, Mesidor, Bryant, Blount in a nice group. But can't sleep on McConathy getting in the mix as well. Curious how this offseason goes for Bain. Does he slim down some for DE. Does he move to DT. Hope he has a nice bounce back in 2025
We are very close to many things beginning to click on the DL. Central to this is Rueben Bain and where he ends up lining up this year. Bain screams natural 3tech to me and it's no secret that he has had to put in a herculean effort just to stay at 280-285. He needs to quit fighting against the inevitable make the move inside. If Bain can move inside and establish himself as a force there then that will send shock waves through not just the DL but the entire defense. Imagine the following DL..

DE Blount/Lightfoot/Pickett
DT Bain/Moten/Horton
DT Blay/Scott/Jones
DE Mesidor/Lowe/McConathy

Of course the above assumes significant jumps from Blount, Scott and Lightfoot plus Lowe being a big factor as a true freshman which I think he will be.

Was torn on this. On one hand I don’t like DL that reclassify. It’s a given they will be hitting their stride after they’re leaving here

But still he was likely better off being here this year rather than in high school

I thought he could be a DT eventually but saw him this year and agree he’s a DE
I was originally just saying it just to stir **** up, but Bain didn't have a successful sophmore year, Mesidor didn't come on til late, and then its a bunch of guys who are still somewhat unproven. I thought Malik Bryant flashed at times so I'd like to see more of him. If we're talking just off measurables and ability, Blount has both imo. And if he can just learn the way JT wants the DEs to get after it cause its inline with Hetherman, he can be a factor this year.

So this may explain why @JG14 was asking about different cloud services.
Not a direct quote from him but you get the point.....

I could definitely get down with that but part of me wants to see Bain get back to wrecking people off the edge like he did in year 1. I'm afraid if they move him inside it could have a negative effect on performance like it did with mesidor. Id love to see

Bain
Blay
Scott
Mesidor

And then heavy rotation at DE with guys like Blount, Lightfoot, McConathy, Lowe etc as they continue to develop. And then Moten, Horton, Jones on the interior... This is obviously assuming Scott takes a major step forward and is ready to start and live up to that 5 star ranking.

Not sure how much he weighs. But we have started to add guys who even when they weigh 260-280 they dont look at it. He may fall into that category.

Its unreal some of the guys in the NFL that are 290lbs but are so fit you'd think they are 235.

You can find pics or @JG14 probably has a hard drive full of them that make his panties moist.

Clockwork. Portal victories, beautiful work out photos, awesome coaching changes. CIS ranked #1 in the offseason. No one comes close.

Someone said a few weeks ago that they saw him in person(Think it was in Orlando for the Pop Shart Bowl) and said that there is no way that he is a DT. Said his frame was identical to Tyler Baron. Seems he was on to something.

The dude was NEVER a DT. He never had the frame for it yet people thought since he weighed 240-255 in HS that he would automatically play inside. His burst, frame, etc would be wasted inside, just like Mesidor's was.

I wouldn't directly compare him to Mesidor as Mesidor has been effective at times inside throughout his career before his struggles there this year. However your point about Blount obviously stands.

We need him to hit so we dont have to go into the portal for a DE. Im definitely counting on him and Scott to show they were 5* kids out of high school this Spring.

Position-less defensive lineman are cool. We just can't have to many of them before versatility is overcome with a lack of specialization.
