I think it's a solid comparison and has been thrown around.

We still have time to get worse or improve on defense and have only played 7 games, thus far however we are giving up 100 less YPG than Washington did last year and averaging over 100 more on offense.

pretty soft schedule as well until they got to the playoffs. Could they be proof that you don't necessarily need an elite secondary to make it all the way? Winning it may be another thing.

Was that the Fool’s Gold in pursuing Meesh… because he was apart of a title contender’s secondary?

I keep making this comparison amongst my friends, sent a message to them all just this morning going over stat similarities and differences, mainly what you've pointed out. I watched UW closely last year as I dated a UW alumn, and had intended to attend a few games.... Their defense came up big when they needed to but aside from that, they had huge holes. I was sorta shocked when we picked up Meesh this off season because of what seemed like a lack of run support, but I've digressed and agree, think its a good comp. Go Canes

I was thinking this today and I think it's an apt comparison. Washington rode a generational QB and a good OL/skill guys on offense + a bad defense to the national championship game. When people mention we have a starter from a team who played in the national championship that doesn't mean that much given it was a really bad defense. But that defense played well enough to beat Utah, Texas, and Oregon twice and I'm not sure we could do that right now.

2023 UW won EIGHT games decided by a single score margin and an additional two decided by 9 and 10 points.

That’s an incredible amount of close game luck.

UW also beat Oregon (in Seattle), Oregon again (in Vegas) and Texas (in NOLA ) — and Huskies were underdogs in all three games.

They were a prime example of a team rising/sinking to the level of its competition (the latter of which we've done the last month) but managing to stay unbeaten each week.

We won't play a team close to as good as the '23 Ducks or '23 Horns until if/when we play Clemson in the ACC title game ... and who's really sure how good the Tigers actually are?

U-Dub had 10 guys picked in the first three rounds in April, including 3 of the first 20 picks.

They've got two guys off that team now starting at Bama, two at Ole Miss, one at Oregon and one for us.

Their defense wasn't good by any means, but they'd find a way to rise up in tight games when the offense was sputtering. ****, Meesh rescued the game with a 90-yard pick six when the Huskies were on the ropes late against ASU.

I went back and watched all four CFP teams regular-season and CCG's the week before the semis in January.

Wasn't surprised Huskies beat UT in the Sugar Bowl. They were **** good at QB, WR and OT — and that's a pretty good path to success in modern day College Football.

He was probably the best option at the time. I can't think of any other transfer safeties that were worth grabbing.
I was being a smart *** because that’s what I like to do… I honestly don’t have an issue with Meesh. I think we have more of a scheme issue on top of being thin in the secondary. Guidry could do more to protect them. As poor as we’ve played we still have more talent than the vast majority teams that Cal, VT or Louisville faced who played them better defensively.

We need to get the run game ready every game the rest of the way out. You aren't winning big play-off games without it. The very reason dominate DT's are so important. If we lean into the run game in the playoffs, eat clock and keep our D off the field maybe a miracle or 2 happens.

We are the 2024 Miami Hurricanes.

Only analogous I can think of rn is 2019 LSU.

Defensively 29th in ypp, we are currently 40th...but 5.11ypp to our 5.09. Miami is at 6.3 defensive ypa passing, LSU at 6.4.

Roster Construction isn't so different, just different emphasis. Miami the lines, LSU the periphery.

Generational QB.
Backs that fit the offense.
They are better at WR, we are better on the OL

They are better personnel at DB, us better DL.

Kiko won't be drafted as high as Queen, but leaders of the defense.

Clutch kicker.

LSU had a better DC and OC which is the biggest difference between the two teams. Aranda just makes Guidry look very much less than.
