Anyone hear anything on Ryan Williams

The bigger question is whether Golden will do what is best for the team long term if Williams is able to play but is not the best option. Will empathy trump expediency?

So, assuming Williams is available, if Golden decides Williams is not the best option, you think he might decide to play him over the guy he considers the best option?

You really can't believe that.

Obviously I'm assuming but I think he meant that if it's close to an even race with Williams/Kaaya/Olsen will you give the job to the younger player who is the future of your program or give it to Williams bc of seniority & has pays his dues. IMO it's bs you play the best player & when it comes to the qb, if a freshman is even with a senior, you give it to the freshman who obviously has a higher ceiling if they're already even with a senior at this point in their career

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- Miami coach Al Golden said quarterback Ryan Williams is doing "phenomenal" in his recovery from a torn ACL and anticipates getting him back at some point during the season.

Ryan Williams is ahead of schedule in his recovery from an ACL tear suffered on April 4.Asked about the possibility of applying for a medical hardship waiver for Williams, Golden said, "That doesn’t appear to be the route right now based on how well he is recovering. We know he’ll be back. It’s just a question of how early because his recovery right now is phenomenal."

Williams, the projected starter, tore his ACL during a scrimmage last month. Golden has remained optimistic that Williams would be able to play this season, but will have a better understanding of when that might happen in July. If Williams is healthy enough to re-enter the fold, Golden will have to decide whether his injured starting quarterback automatically gets his job back.

"There’s a lot more to it than that," Golden said. "When is he cleared for participation and when is he cleared for game action? We need to distinguish that."

With Williams out of the mix for now, redshirt freshman Kevin Olsen is the favorite to win the starting quarterback job. He had an up-and-down spring, punctuated by a flat performance in the spring game, when he went 7-for-21 for 65 yards with an interception.

"He made a lot of progress. I know everybody just looks at the spring game. But, for me, the spring game ... my philosophy in the spring game is a lot different than what we were doing in the scrimmage before, where we were using everything and calling all the things we called all spring," Golden said. "So I think Kevin handled that transition well. He’s going to have to continue to grow and we have two young guys coming in this Sunday [Brad Kaaya, Malik Rosier] that are going to want to compete and battle and Ryan at the same time, he’s doing well with his recovery."

Nothing to see here. Williams will work to get back to game shape. In the meantime, the others will need to progress. No other choices.

During the Spring game Olsen was horrible, The rest of the Spring he was pretty good though. I sure don't feel very good about going to Louisville on Labor Day with him as our QB. There is no way to get ready for that.

Golden will trot Williams out before he's ready. Just like he kept Morris in game after game when he was clearly injured.

Yeah, a good corch wouldn't give a loyal senior who quietly waited his turn any hope that he can realize his dream of being the U's starting quarterback

Not sure if you're serious, but loyalty doesn't equate to anything in college football. Give me the best QB, whether it's RW, Olsen or Kaaya.

I get what you're saying, but I also disagree. To a degree, loyaltee does mean something. I'm sure RW is a respected player in the locker room. So from a team morale standpoint I think you have to give him a shot IF he's ready to go. Think it will be kind of difficult to be ready by then, but anything could happen I guess. I'm not saying you just give the guy the starting job back, but at least let him make an attempt to prove himself. Not saying you just let anyone take the field, but I think it's a good thing to be loyal to players that have been loyal to the program, coaching staff, university, and fans.

The wise thing to do would be to apply for a 6th year and let him compete with Olsen, Kaaya, Crow and Rosier in 2015.

AG gonna use williams injury as an excuse and it will buy him another year...

On the real tho-- Williams probably wont be good to go till early November at the earliest. I still think Olsen starts.
