Anyone else take this loss differently than they'd expect?

I was flamming ****ed and still am. Too many years I've watched Miami kick itself in the **** time after time. I'm sick and tired of it year after year. In 20 years we've been to one ACC championship game. ******* one, and we were blown out in it. Richt had to kick a fg late to avoid a shut out.

This is the same as 2017 where a double digit win season feels closer to .500 because of games that could have went either way. Yeah we covered some ACC games but they were dog fights way too long. We couldn't stand on a teams throat from the start of the game.

2017 game against ND is the only game in 20 years where Miami dominated a highly ranked opponent. Outside of a handful of games, we haven't dominated really any team. This is far from a Mario problem, he's just next in line.

I’m ****ed because I completely expected it but had some board fueled stupid hopium that our destiny under Mario wouldn’t be fulfilled. I yelled it from the rafters all season that our chickens would come home to roost with how we played. Our board brain trust however could only look at the win/loss column and put blinders on to the holes in our boat.

Obviously I’m disappointed at losing but it wasn’t some huge shock and honestly I saw it coming a while back. In the big picture we’re right about where I and most of us thought we’d be. I didn’t expect the defense to fall on it’s face but I wasn’t expecting the highest scoring offense in the nation either.

I am too cynical to look ahead to a conf or playoff championship . I saw this as Pitt 2017 from a mile away.

Every coach has had an impossible mission of convincing Miami not to look ahead and read their own press.

The only way Miami will ever sniff another title is if we make the opponents look like pop warner teams in terms of size, speed and skill.

That game wasn’t domination either. Notre Dame just kept turning the ball over. Look at the final numbers and it looks like a defensive slug fest.

Syracuse was always a game I thought would be an issue. I posted about it numerous times in other threads. Once it became painfully obvious how bad the secondary was this season, I knew it was going to be a real problem.

Ga Tech was the loss that really made me angry. I gave the staff too much credit for wanting to redeem last year's debacle and show up prepared. I've rewatched that game which honestly, made me even angrier. Both sides of the ball failed. I seriously wonder how much time they spent preparing..

I think we all let ourselves believe that Cam would continue to carry the team when necessary - no matter what mistakes or poor judgements he made. He always seemed to find a way out of trouble. It let us continue to hope for greater things at the end of the season. Truthfully, I bet Mario felt that way too...

I give Cam credit for never throwing the defense under the bus - he never put blame on anyone or any part of the team without assigning some to himself, too. I found myself wondering how he felt on Saturday as he watched the defense give the game to Syracuse..

I'd like to see the team get a shot in the playoffs for no reason but I think the offense deserves it. There are some players on the defensive side of the ball who earned it, too. You would hope Guidry could pull it together to put a plan in place for one more game. A plan that his players can actually execute without looking like idiots... Surely there are analysts or grad assistants on the defensive side of the ball who can help???

It really stinks to end the season like this.

It's a bit different for me in that I'm mad that Mario would field a defense this atrocious in year 3. I'm mad that given his lengthy and thorough interview and vetting process and the fact that he's been in this game as an HC who has had the opportunity to be around excellent and not so excellent coaches that he hired Guidry in the 1st place. For us fans its different as were just fans but Mario should have known Guidry's defense was fundamentally unsound.

I knew who he was coming in and was never really big on hiring him but in the end I thought it was the best shot we had at the time to have the school put the type of money needed into the program. That and frankly, I thought that the guy could improve especially with him finally being back as HC of his alma mater. Then it was the stark realization that this would be the best it would likely ever get plus knowing how his teams are always among the most penalized in the nation while he gets up there and preaches accountability, leadership and whatever other garbage that he spews out like a broken record. So I admit it. I'm pi$$ed! I may not win a Phil Jackson zen award but that's ok lol.

I’ve never liked the Mario hire so I’m biased there admittedly. He’s un-fireable so now I’m just sort of resigned to this type of season being our high mark. I think Memnon is kinda saying the same thing. I expect us to have talented teams and we probably won’t see any of the low lows anymore with him here but he’s just not capable of beating good coaches consistently enough

It really grinds my gears knowing SMU with miami jags are one win from winning the ACC their 1st year. While we've been waiting 20

I wasn’t surprised we lost and overall I’m happy we went 10-2. Surpassed my expectations. It’s a little sad that when we were up 21-0 I knew there was a good chance we didn’t close them out. I guess watching this team lose too many games every year prepares you for this kind of stuff.

I’ll be really happy if Mario can keep winning 9/10 games a year. If that happens by the time he retires our next coach will be able to build off a stronger foundation and we’ll have the financial infrastructure in place to be a winner

Best thing about Mario as a coach was how he got boosters to buy in

This was a slow burn for me. I knew right around Louisville that this defense was beyond repair and put a ceiling on this team below our ambitions. That painful drink-your-sorrows-away loss was spread across the last 6 or so games little by little; even after wins.

Defense is usually the time I got off the couch/seat and most into the game - this season I found myself mad, then annoyed, then disinterested to the point where I just wanted to walk out of the room until the offense was back on the field.

I think if this team were in the teens or 20s on both sides of the ball and lost because of turnovers or sloppy play this would have been devastating... But the polar nature of the units, although more frustrating big picture to have wasted the offense, seemed to just have made the result inevitable far before Syracuse.

Apathy has entered the chat. Last year halfway broke me, this year more, another ****** season and i think I can finally not give (much) of a ****.

People blame Mario and rightfully so, but it's always really been about the horrendous "leadership " at the top. You give an actual good coach the resources Mario got, and this team would be ******* right now.

I agree with everything you mentioned. Only way we/Mario break through the glass ceiling is to hire better coordinators.

I know we likely won’t pay our staff at the same level as Ohio St or Penn St, but they’ve got multiple position coaches making well over $1mm. I’m not saying that’s the only way to win a Natty, but Mario can’t keep whiffing like he’s done at Miami.

I know he’s got an ego problem, but he could certainly use extra experience on staff and bring in guys that were former HC’s.

I hear what you’re saying, but what better coordinators are walking through that door to work under Mario, his coordinators to date at Miami reek of fifth and six options

I think you may have misdiagnosed it a bit and are confusing it with close to a quarter century of PCTSD (Post Canes Traumatic Syndrome Disorder).

This season should have been enjoyable instead of frustrating. I knew we would not beat Syracuse. From coach to players it is just not in them yet to win these types of games. I really thought they could recapture the fire they had in Florida all season, but they couldn’t or wouldn't. I thought it possible that they could regain that fire for such an important game…nope.

Talking heads all over the country kept saying all year they just wanted to see Miami beat up a team and show who they really are (like they did in Florida). But they couldn’t and that turned out to be who they really are.

I am not mad, it's just sad that this season is seemly taking a step backward instead of forward.

Nope, I did not enjoy this season at all…. I have PCTSD.

I watched it how I always do. Even 21-0 I wasn’t comfortable. That’s how you know you’ve only been alive to remember the same Miami we’ve always been. I became a fan at age 6 and my first real memory is losing to Ohio state in the fiesta bowl. Nothing but pain

Not upset at all.

Losing always sucks, but the consensus prediction for this season was 10-2. The 2 losses were going to be against some teams that we weren't technically supposed to lose to, because that's Mario's trademark.

Even at his absolute best at Oregon, he would have games like
- 2018 vs Stanford
- 2018 vs Wash ST
- 2018 vs Utah

- 2019 vs AZ ST

- 2020 vs Cal

- 2021 vs Stanford
- 2021 vs Utah (twice)

That's just who Mario is as a Coach. He's not ever going to lead your team beyond what expectations are. People are only upset or shocked because they buried their heads in the sand back in 2021-22 before he got hired here. It was discussed & brought up by some on the board, but people ignored it & called them mopes.

The reality, this is probably the best it will get under Mario's tenure. We'll be able to go on runs & catch lightening in a bottle depending on if we can keep getting NFL caliber QB's via Portal.

But, the whole long process "doing it the right way" building through HS recruiting stuff is not going to work with him as our HC. It's an old model in a new era.

So, the best way to deal with these types of losses as a fan, is just understand that this is what comes with it. You can't/shouldn't be upset about a loss to GTech or Cuse, or whoever, if you understand that this apart of the HC's DNA.

If you really think he can turn us into a perennial playoff team that can compete for Natty's, it's because you simply want to believe it, not because you have an actual reason to believe it.

I mean, 10-2/9-3/11-1 with an occasional lightning in the bottle IS INDEED BETTER than 9-4 back to 7-6 for 3 straight years, rinse, repeat.

After a while of 10-2/11-1/9-3 seasons, you eventually get tired of that.
