This is a big case with alot of decisions to be made. An ex-con with reams of accusations, ex players who snitched, Ex players not cooperating (thank goodness, but may result in penaties) wins possibly being negated, scholarship decisions, post season bowl ban decision, Clint Hurtt, Aubrey Hill, PLUS the mens basketball team facing accusations and the future of Frank Haith in the balance etc......may take till the third game.
Agreed. Moreover, I think the NCAA may be trying to work thru possible counter-moves by the various parties (appeals, law suits, etc.).
Exactly. I think they're burning up the back channels trying to feel any and every reactive move by Shalala and Glazer. This is where Glazer is earning his ****ing money. I think they're negotiating without negotiating and trying to get a handle on what is gonna best serve the closure goal but by also not coming off weaker than they already do. I mean it's a lose lose situation for them at this point. They're trying to manage PR as much as anything.
The weird thing is that the University of Miami, the institution that everyone loves to hate and punish was turned into the good guy in this and has gotten a large support faction as a by product of their subversive actions. This is not something they counted on by any means. No one and I mean no one has ever been in our corner.
But now you've got Shalala with her large political presence and the media that has gone from vilifying us to crucifying the NCAA for their actions and this has put a dent in the public's support of a Miami beheading by Emmert and Co. They thought for sure that no one would slap their wrist for going after the evil Miami but they didn't expect this and now they've got to figure out how to gain some closure while still salvaging some face with perceived strength and doing it without further amplifying the support behind Miami even if it's misdirected.
That's alot of media outlets, university presidents, large national boosters, political figures, and lawyers to call and feel out.
