What's your opinion on when and WHY the NCAA decides to break out with it?

Right before the UF game? Right after in case we win and are the story?

No conspiracy or alterior motives by the NCAA in regards to timing?

What's your take?

Personally, I can see us beating the Gatas, and the NCAA takes over the sports news cycle the following monday, and if we lose, then wait so it effects our recruiting again. (I always assume malevolent intentions)

This is a big case with alot of decisions to be made. An ex-con with reams of accusations, ex players who snitched, Ex players not cooperating (thank goodness, but may result in penaties) wins possibly being negated, scholarship decisions, post season bowl ban decision, Clint Hurtt, Aubrey Hill, PLUS the mens basketball team facing accusations and the future of Frank Haith in the balance etc......may take till the third game.

So, are we assuming the NCAA is benevolent and the timing is strictly a matter of due dilligence?

Agreed. Moreover, I think the NCAA may be trying to work thru possible counter-moves by the various parties (appeals, law suits, etc.).

I think they are waiting to see if we beat one of their "most favored teams" in UF.

One of my law school professors was a former president of the NCAA, and you would have to travel thousands of leagues under the sea in a bathysphere to find the kind of lower life scum that was the likes of him.

I hope the NCAA isn't slow-playing the sentencing phase because they are hoping on more stuff to come to light
from the ARod/Biogenesis/RBraun scandals.
There is that allegation that came out on Friday about some folks on ARod's inner-circle leaking stuff to Yahoo, and
we all know about those scumbags.
I know, I sound paranoid.
But I don't trust those folks in Indianapolis.

Exactly. I think they're burning up the back channels trying to feel any and every reactive move by Shalala and Glazer. This is where Glazer is earning his ******* money. I think they're negotiating without negotiating and trying to get a handle on what is gonna best serve the closure goal but by also not coming off weaker than they already do. I mean it's a lose lose situation for them at this point. They're trying to manage PR as much as anything.

The weird thing is that the University of Miami, the institution that everyone loves to hate and punish was turned into the good guy in this and has gotten a large support faction as a by product of their subversive actions. This is not something they counted on by any means. No one and I mean no one has ever been in our corner.

But now you've got Shalala with her large political presence and the media that has gone from vilifying us to crucifying the NCAA for their actions and this has put a dent in the public's support of a Miami beheading by Emmert and Co. They thought for sure that no one would slap their wrist for going after the evil Miami but they didn't expect this and now they've got to figure out how to gain some closure while still salvaging some face with perceived strength and doing it without further amplifying the support behind Miami even if it's misdirected.

That's alot of media outlets, university presidents, large national boosters, political figures, and lawyers to call and feel out.

Donna's connection to politics is overrated. Every University president has ties to politics. She is doing what any other president would do. The NCAA doesn't like us and they are trying to determine how hard they can punish us. Why would you think any different?

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

There are very few--if any--university presidents who have served in national politics to the degree at which Shalala has. Seriously. The majority of University presidents have never served on governmental committees or have been US cabinet members. The majority of University presidents have only a fraction of the political connections that Shalala has.

I can't believe that a mod on this board would be so **** dumb as to put forth such a statement.

Think about it: the fact that she is a major political player is the very reason why her statements have meant so much in regard to this investigation. No other university president--Not USC, not OSU, not PSU, not ND, not FSU, not UNC--has had their statement covered to such degree as Shalala's have been. And this is BEFORE any ruling has even been handed down.

LOL @ Canes fans that actually believe the NCAA is conspiring against Miami in the release of the sanctions. This is a poorly run, bumbling beauracray combined with a huge case in which evidence spans a decade.

Here's a thought: the sanctions will be released once the COI is done with its findings and has agreed on penalties.

They wait until football games start so ESPN isn't talking about them all day. COWARDS

Exactly what I was thinking, that´s my fear as well. Maybe the sanctions are harsh and they don´t want to disclose them in the offseason and therefore we haven´t heard nada from them so far.

the only plausible explanation for the delay is that they are still trying to find stuff so that they dont look even more stupid. If that assumption is correct, it may be weeks or even months before anything happens.

Don't believe that for a minute. She's inner circle. Believe it

I have to believe that this is going to end sooner than later at this point(9 weeks in)......

No more than 2 weeks tops...... This will end before the start of the season.......

Monday Sept. 9. Its a win win for them, they can either pile on after another of their sacred $EC teams beats us or they can take the wind out of our positive pub by handing out the sanctions. So instead of us talking about a huge win we are talking about the sanctions. Book it!
