Another Senior QB Transfer

This guy ain't Russell Wilson.

If you want to compare him to a Senior QB Transfer, then about the closest one I've got is Kirby Freeman. And even Kirby was the starter at Baylor before RG3 took off his pampers and ascended to the throne.

So, the question becomes...would we take Kirby Freeman (or a guy that may not be as good as Kirby) as a Senior QB Transfer to compete with our younger guys???

Ummmmmm..............No.

Well obviously, was just stating that there is an occasional winner out there every now and then and not all Sr transfers are bums like this guy.

Hmm - so not worth having a senior qb with starting experience come in to compete with our 3 freshman qbs

Senior QBs worth anything don't typically transfer. Just saying

Tell that to Russell Wilson

Too be fair they forced him out for Glennon... They said O'brien didn't want him to play baseball but I don't recall him suiting up on the diamond during his tenure at Wisky... "Lead foot" Glennon was one of the nations elite qb prospects however Wilson was a beast... He was extremely productive at NCstate but the coach didn't want him... Different scenario...

Heaps freshman and sophomore numbers at BYU are nowhere near as bad as last year at Kansas. Won a decent amount of games there. As a senior I would take him as a potential 1 year stop gap that can push the young guys. With talented backs and receivers he could be a guy that may be able to just distribute the ball to the playmakers effectively.

There are a lot of reasons why a kid does not work out at certain schools. Yeah, he looks like he was mediocre at BYU and Kansas, but there could be a lot of reasons for that: injuries, poor supporting cast, not the right chemistry with coaches, or maybe he was just not that good, etc.

This kid had a world of potential coming out of HS. He was first team on every A-A team, apparently number one rated QB by Scout:

It's not clear from reading that article linked by the OP, is he coming to the U or has he just announced he is transferring. The fact he's had a lot of game experience, plus his potential coming out of HS as, arguably, the best HS QB in the country, would make me very interested in taking him as a senior transfer.

Right now, all we have is a bunch of young QBs, some with a lot of potential talent, but almost no real game experience. I would want somebody with game experience. If we were to take him, I wish he had been here during spring practice.

At the very least...maybe he can be our second kicker. Uncanny resemblance to Garo Yepremian in the '73 SuperBowl.

I said TYPICALLY for every Russell Wilson there are a dozen that aren't worth anything

Lets be real... He didn't want to transfer... O'brien pushed him out... There's a difference when you initiate the transfer and when you are pushed out... Wilson was pushed out despite what he accomplished... These guys are scrubs... Wilson was an All-conference player... These guys are hs AA who have produced at an underwhelming level... Mediocre at best...

As I said, there could be a million reasons--or perhaps a dozen--why a QB with great potential doesn't work out. One thing they said he did in HS is throw a very nice pass. Now, somehow, that didn't translate into superior college performance. Was it the QB coach or OC? the system? injuries? poor supporting cast? Or did the kid just not have it? We don't know at this point. We really need experienced QB help. I would have been much more confident with a guy with limited talent, but a good head on his shoulders, experience and knowledge of the offense (Ryan Williams) than a young, untested, inexperienced QB with potential, but just potential (Olsen and Kaaya). At least this kid Heaps has had a lot of college game experience.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Golden and Coley are very interested in this kid, and make a play for him.

For all you message board loonies who think that Kaaya is the savior, especially during his true freshman year....well, I know why you're spending your time on message boards and not coaching Div 1 football. That's not to say he couldn't be the exception and come in and be an effective starter as a true freshman, but I don't expect it.

All I'm saying is that Wilson was a bad example... He was beasting at NCSU but the coach wanted "lead foot" who was good but he wasn't better than Wilson... As for Heaps, I actually liked him as a freshman. His struggles is a bit confusing... However, more times than not you're not getting a good transfer at qb this late in the game... I do agree there are reasons for transfers... We have Newton and Marshall at Marshall as examples... Lets even go further back to Brad Banks who was kicked out of UCF but transferred to Iowa for his last season of eligibility then became a heirs man finalist(I think runner up to Palmer)... Heck Troy Aikman couldn't beat out Holeway at Okie(dumb signing to a triple Option Offense) but he was a stud at UCLA... There are examples...

I always felt our qb position was going to be a step back even with Williams... That being said, I rather the staff work with the younger players. I liked Heap but everyone should be alarmed at his regression. He was a stud as a freshman, the struggled as a sophomore, he then failed at Kansas... As for coaching, Weis does produce some good qbs... He takes mediocre prospects and make them productive with the exception of John Brantley... Both Clausen and Quinn was average but he had them productive enough to give an illusion of being better... I don't think it's coaching with Heaps... Maybe injuries...

Maybe if there is a sophomore transferring but not a senior who has 4 years to prove himself but failed at doing so..

Oh I'm also not buying into Kaaya being the man as a true freshman... He has a few things to work on and adjusting to college ball will be challenge for the true freshman... Maybe next year or 2 years from now he'll be ready...
