Analyzing and predicting the next AP poll (12/11)

Minnesota has been struggling lately. Losses at Nebraska and Arkansas (albeit neither a bad loss, especially vs Arkansas) plus a 1 pt home win over Drake.

We might be in the Top 5 next week and judging by the traffic on this board Most of Miami is not interested. Go figure.

I don't blame Canes fans for not being into it yet. We're top 10 by default. It's impossible to know if we struggle to get up for crap opposition, or if we're overrated.

6th in the AP. UNC jumped us.
8th in coaches jumped by UNC, behind both Duke and UNC in both. GW game 2nd half killed us. Everyone is going to jump on defending us man D. Think we might have 2 surprises for them. Brown should be fully back soon and if not assume he will have limited minutes pre-ACC. Surprise 2 will be coach L coaching em up to beat the man D. We be cookin' well before ACC tourney.

Lol. They should’ve dropped that game yesterday. Nothing like being a blue blood.

Can't say they should have lost. They executed extremely well the last 2 minutes and deserved the W.

That statement can be accurate and I can also believe that if Tennessee performs better throughout the game it isn’t that close at the end. Lamonte Turnover also pitched in.

The crap schedule and the fact that a good number of pundits think Miami is not for real or at least unproven I would think has a lot to do with the lack of buzz locally.
I'm no BB guru by a long shot but I've yet to watch a game and think Wow, they're really good.

An Opinion...Borzello at ESPN

Miami entered the season ranked No. 11 in the ESPN Power Rankings.

Five weeks into the season, the Hurricanes have moved up to No. 6.

It's been an impressive 9-0 start for Miami, and its rise in the rankings is a direct result of that zero in the loss column. Outside of that, though, the jury is still very much out on the Hurricanes. On paper, they're absolutely good enough to be a top-10 team and an ACC contender. Bruce Brown and freshman Lonnie Walker are potential first-round NBA draft picks in the backcourt, although both players have had slumps so far. Ja'Quan Newton is a quality point guard. Former five-star recruit Dewan Huell is having a breakout year, and Melbourne native Dejan Vasiljevic gives Miami a different dimension from the perimeter.

But what has Miami really done so far? Its best win is at Minnesota, which at the time looked like an impressive victory. Some of the shine has been removed in recent weeks, though, with the Golden Gophers falling by 10 to Nebraska and by 16 to Arkansas. So if Minnesota isn't as good as expected, Miami's nonconference rsum is lacking, as the Gophers are the lone top-125 KenPom team Miami has played thus far.

Furthermore, we might not really know how good Miami is until ACC play. The Hurricanes head to Hawaii for the Diamond Head Classic this week, but the second-best team in the bracket is USC, which is struggling.

At the end of the season, Miami is very likely to be a top-10 team and in the top three of the ACC -- but we just don't know how good the Hurricanes are yet.

UNC lost to Wofford as a 26 point favorite. Top 5 is in our sights if we take care of business in this tournament,

- Duke (11-1) - 10-0 at #1 ranking - since: 57 point home win over St. Francis (3-5), 5 point loss at Boston Coll (7-3)
- Kansas (7-1) - 7-0 at #2 ranking - since: 9 point home loss to Washington (7-2), playing #1 6 ranked Arizona St (8-0) today
- Michigan St (9-1) - 7-1 at #3 ranking - since: 10 point win at Rutgers (8-3), 25 point home win over So. Utah (5-4)
- Villanova (9-0) - 8-0 at #4 ranking - since: 16 point win at #1 2 ranked Gonzaga (7-2), playing LaSalle (5-5) today
- Florida (6-3) - 5-1 at #5 ranking - since: 17 point home loss to F$U (8-0), 6 point home loss to Loyola Chicago (10-1), 6 point win at #1 7 ranked Cincinnati (7-2)
- Wichita St (8-1) - 6-1 at #6 ranking - since: 10 point home win over S. Dak St (8-4), 12 point win at OK St (7-2)
- Texas A&M (8-1) - 7-0 at #7 ranking - since: 3 point loss at Arizona (7-3), 20 point home win over Prairie View (2-7)
- Kentucky (8-1) - 7-1 at #8 ranking - since: 17 point home win over Monmouth (3-7)
- Notre Dame (8-2) - 7-1 at #9 ranking - since: 3 point home loss to Ball State (6-4), 24 point win at Delaware (4-6)
- Miami (8-0) - 7-0 at #1 0 ranking - since: 15 point home win over Boston Univ (4-4)
- North Carolina (9-1) - 8-1 at #1 1 ranking - since: 43 point home win over Western Carolina (3-7)

Duke and Kansas will drop. Kansas' loss is worse than Duke's, but Kansas can rehabilitate themselves with a win over a ranked team.

Michigan State and Villanova should rise. Assuming Villanova wins today, they should be #1 with more impressive wins this week.

Florida should drop out of the Top 10. Even a win over a ranked team won't fix 3 consecutive losses.

Wichita State and Kentucky did not lose, but may not jump Kansas if Kansas wins by a lot today.

Texas A&M and Notre Dame will drop after losses.

Miami and North Carolina had comparable weeks, with just 1 game played (wins by each).

Top 5 teams SHOULD be:

1. Villanova
2. Michigan State
3. Wichita State
4. Kentucky
5. Miami

The only wild card in that mix would be if Kansas has a big win over a ranked Arizona St team and stays in the Top 5.

This guy had the 2017-18 team in the top 5. That aged well.

This was the most talented team we will ever have. Completely wasted & mismanaged by L and his JV coaching staff

We’ll never know how good that team could have been. Brown was lost at almost exactly the same time Walker fully recovered from his meniscus injury.
