Uh, yeah, I am not convinced he keeps his name out of the portal for long. Talking to alum who know him, with that happened with his high school teammate and his mother’s desire for him to be close to home, it sounds like for now his family more than he decided to stay at UGA and tough it out. I have been given no reason to believe this is permanent but frustratingly enough it now gives other schools more time to keep working on him, Miami too admittedly but I don’t think we keep pressing and prioritising him like we did.

So here we go; Mims was promised (or at very least heavily suggested) that he would be a starter by the previous OL coach who he has a great relationship with… When he stepped away, Mims started to reach out to teams and gauge their interest in him because he was unsure about the vacancy. Kirby himself had to convince him not to put his name in the portal in January and to have faith that the replacement OL coach would be just as good. Mims agreed to this and decided to try and give Searles a chance. By March it was pretty clear that Mims and Searles did not get along and Mims had lost what little faith he still had in his head coach sticking by the promise of him starting so he once again started reaching out and really only one school caught his interest; Miami. Players are wonderful recruiters and I will just leave it at that.

From all I can gather, Mims always only had one alternative destination and the tipping point that, for now, has convinced him to stay at UGA was there pressure of his family and his mother in particular to remain nearby. I will not get into the speculation that this is related to his teammate’s passing, as was suggested by who I talk to at UGA but rather I think this was a combination of many things and those things outweighed his own desires to play immediately, for now. I highly doubt this is over because talking to someone else, he said there is ‘about a 2% chance Mims starts this year’ and this was after he put his name in so after UGA did everything they could to convince him to stay. Miami beat them on every front, no other school who he was interested in came close. I’ll keep an eye on this for sure because as I said, Miami put a lot of effort into this and there is a reason UGA sources heard Miami from the jump, it was the plan for months.
Sorry if someone asked already but..... Any explanation on why he took the fsu visit in the first place? If we were the only other choice, why not visit us first???

I'm glad he didn't though based on how things turned out... Just wondering.

Are you going to stop crying and just put your suppository in?

I responded to things you said. I never accused you of anything. If you can't handle nuance, you should probably stop posting.

Oh, waaaaah, "things were laid at your feet". With that level of fragility, you are probably better suited for the Gaytor or SemenHole boards.

Grow up.
Who is crying? Just called you out for you BS side step. I’m very a-tune to nuance but you still kept responding and addressed those responses. I’m fine having a conversation and do so on the regular here

Good info. I always assumed we had real interest and probably set up a visit. Sounds like mama is too controlling to let her son go far. I'd personally be surprised if we went after him again if he did go back into the portal. Sounds like he doesn't know what he wants and or isn't willing to make his own decisions. But we clearly do need OL help, so who knows? Just would shock me if he dipped again before May 1. After that, it'd be the following year, so could depend on OL recruiting.

Then have a conversation, by all means. I was largely agreeing with you and calling out OTHER people who seemed to be blaming insiders. Nobody "laid anything at your feet" and there was no side-step. Not every "response" is meant to be a disagreement.

There's really no need for you to continue being angry when I tried to explain it. It simply wasn't what you thought it was. No big deal, no harm.

Josh Newberg still says to relax...

Just guessing but probably the parents made him take to see an alternative closer to home. Just a guess

Since posted by Jawga sources that he is staying with the Dawgs...

we have another 10 solid pages of porsts....

ahhhh the off season...

GLORIOUS!!!

Once we hit 200 pages we will be closing down this thread. If something new occurs please feel free to start a new thread. But we are now beyond the point of usefulness in this thread.
You can't stop the signal baby.

Long may this thread reign!

Or is it rain (with porsts)?

I'm easily confused.

No idea what will happen with Mims but expect this from every 5 star entering their 2nd/3rd year who's a back-up (and/or not getting paid, assuming they arent a bust) - jump in the portal, flirt with some others teams (creating massive leverage) and bid yourself for NIL deals (including your existing team). Either get your current team to throw NIL money to stay or jump elsewhere to starting job + NIL deal. Unless you just want to be "loyal" there is no reason not to do this. CFB gonna get interesting...

Many years ago, I worked for a national telecommunications company. I had been there 5 years and no promotion. I was working on getting my Master's degree that the company was paying for. When I got my M.S., I said to myself, "I'm going to stay and get what I want or leave and get what I want. Either way I'm getting what I want." When I was was passed over for a promotion that that would have paid me $8k-$10k more, I decided to send out out my resume. I landed a job making $30k more and never looked back. Never doubted myself or my skillet.

These young men understand the laws of supply and demand for highly desirable skillets. Like a person at any job, they are going to take advantage of the leverage they have when it presents itself. That's just good business even if people think it's bad for college football. That doesn't mean, guys should leave just to get more money. There are other factors, buts there's nothing wrong with leveraging to get a better situation. Employers do it to workers all the time when they can get cheaper labor. This is just a new dynamic to college football.

I think it is getting blown out of proportion. He was probably BEGGED to go visit FSU. Add in the relationship with Atkins, proximity to home, he prob got a few bands just for showing up, shows he is doing some due diligence .

FSU was likely concerned our visit was scheduled for that weekend so they needed a mid-week visit to try and prevent Mario and crew from getting him to shut it down over the weekend so they could at least shoot their shot. Some booster putting up the NIL $ prob told warchant he signed their NIL package and warchant wrote he signed with FSU and committed.

Dude has a teammate die, returns home, phone prob blowing up from the committed, no he did not media circus, UGA likely incentivizes him a little to come back and he says F it fine. Like the story could legit be that simple.

Good stuff, Leeds. Question, though, if we were THE primary school outside of UGA, how come we couldn't get him to visit over FSU?

**** good question...perhaps he just wanted to put uga on notice imo
