Froggy would leave Tana like he had cement shoes (40yds)...

Never saw 40s being run live and while I haven't attending practices as long as you have, I did regularly through the 90s and early 00s and to this day, Mitchell is about the top as far as next level speed I ever saw at greentree. Shame. He was the fastest kid in the country as a senior in HS.

I'm talking on GreenTree practice field....
Froggy took all their money....and this a few yrs after he left UM....After 40yds...I'd say either Horace Copeland or Brian Blades

Was going to add Stanley Shakespeare but someone mentioned him first.

How about:
  • Jim Burt - Great blue collar OL/DL name
  • Gino Torretta - Great name for a flashy QB, except Gino was anything but flashy
  • Smokey Roan - Good name for TB. 420 career carries (kidding...)
  • Rubin Carter
And while not a player...
  • Howard Schnellenberger - perfect name for a grumpy old coach

Tory ran a 10.12 wind-aided and multiple wind-legal 10.3x FAT 100m in high school despite being from a 4A school where he never got pushed by city kids.... so who knows what he could've ran. He was a late bloomer too., had much better times as a senior than as a junior. That was back before kids like him ran in meets all over the country against the best of the best. I've told the story before but I got to talk to Phillip Buchanon at a Nike camp in 99 (I think?) and he was in awe of Tory's speed. He echoed what AU says above.... he was only DB that could run with Santana and he made it look easy. High praise from him, as PBuch had a lot of gitty-up himself.

A Texas 4x100 of Mitchell, Daryl Jones (Big East 55m & 100m champ), Shawnbrey Mcneal (10.45 FAT), and Kevin Williams would be very competitive against the best Florida has sent to UM, no doubt. Tremain Mack and several others could run, too.

Oh I agree...but for the life of me...I never saw a UM player (on grass..not a track) run as fast for 40yds than Froggy...I mentioned this to @dsddcane about a yr ago and he laughed in agreement....

I often wonder what Houston McTear could've have done on a FB field...Here in Orlando/Winter Park is Showalter Field...Back in the 60s and 70s they held many Meets there...About 10 or 12yrs ago I was talking to some elderly folks about their Memories about the Performances at Showalter...Of course immediately Bob Hayes name came up...and they went on and on (rightfully so) about his accomplishments at Showalter in the early 60s....(Keep in mind these were Elderly Black men in their 60s and 70s)...Legendary Stuff...You could easily tell they knew their stuff in ref to Track...But Maannnn the second Houston's name came up, they all said in agreement, that they never so someone run so Fast at a Showalter event than McTear in I think 1976....They said it was something they'll never forget....Absolutely Stupifing.....McTear ran a 9.0 100yds in 75.....Supposedly also ran a 8.95 that yr...but was later disallowed...

2nd Best Offensive HS FB player I've ever seen...from my hometown...His Legendary HS FB Coaches Daughter is a close friend.
He was 2 classes ahead of me (I was at Cape). Funny you mention offense, he was the USA today Defensive POY. Corner would've been his $$$ position.

He was the 1st Mr. Fl FB recipient as well....Cape High??....I wish...I went to NFM...If you lived on one side of CC Pkwy you went to NFM....the otherside...Cypress Lake...If you were Catholic and folks had $$$ Bishop Verot....If you lived near Pine Island road, and had a Full set of "Tooth"...Riverdale
I missed Cape High by a yr...NFM 75-78

Elias Lugo ***undo.

Y’all need to peep the current roster lol.

Are you sure? I might do some research on this when I get a chance. I believe Sonny was from West Coast and Andy was from Indian Country in Oklahoma. Doesn't mean they're not but I wonder if they are from same tribe (or maybe nation is more appropriate these days).

Robert Thomas in the '80's was probably pretty fast. From Roosevelt HS in DC. His coach said he was fastest kid on the East Coast. His HS track rival was Eric Metcalf from No Va, a kid we thought we had. I think Texas might have bought him at last minute
