SVP Golden Interview:
-Optimism in Coral Gables: We've been thru alot, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and everyone stuck with us. Worst is behind us. Played 21 freshman against the 3rd hardest schedule in the country. Won the coastal for the first time and excited bout moving forward
-How difficult was it for Al in the darkest moment: It's still difficult. We aren't out of it yet. Still living in a toxic environment. Grateful for all the press opportunities that he gets but doesn't matter how many shows he goes on to, the first question is always about the that stuff and its hard to deflect that. However when Al sit back in his office and looks at all the upgrades and new facilities, he is reminded of a program that played for and won the most nat'l championships in the last 30 years. Rambles off more accolades from our Canes and that is still the pitch that he serves to new recruits. Incredible to be a part of that legacy with the culture and diversity of a great city
-On SteMo, how special can he be: Disappoint they didn't name him as one of the best. Elite Arm and none of some certain nfl quarterbacks like Schabb, Hassleback, St. Pierre has the arm of SM17. None of them have the arm strength of Stephen Morris and Golden was on the staff of each of those guys. SteMo understand concepts and he is a 212lb man that runs 4.61 and can move his feet and tremendous in the play action game.
-On Duke Johnson being an elite UM RB: Duke Johnson personifies the guy you want on the recruiting trails. Golden knows that Duke wants to be that RB guy at UM . Not intimidated by the big names on the wall when you walk into the room of the great UM Running backs. Duke walks in and wants to be at the top of the list. Sees a record and wants to break it. Duke had a 3.0 this semester and Golden doesn't have to chase him to do anything. His talent eclipses his intangibles. Does whatever needs to be done and became an ALL AMERICAN doing it.
-On Florida Gators: Golden says all the teams will be a test for us. For the next 86 days we get better and improve at the spots we need to improve in. But its a big game and a great opportunity. We have never shied away from games like this or Nebraska next year. Awesome game to have. Some people look at it as a pressure standpoint. We don't.
Golden requires Polarized Glasses to appreciate his shine! Great interview.
