Tried to be as detailed as possible
• Golden happy overall with scrimmage
• “Unforgivably” hot yesterday during scrimmage
• 60-65% of game
• Friday night next scrimmage
• After Friday, Fans fest w/ media
• After that, we have 65 or so we’re gonna work with
• Then deciding who starters are following week
• Came out healthy for most part (take fwiw)
• Excited about defensive line
• Curtis Porter has made probably biggest transformation- 325 lb nose tackle with good leverage and power
• Did great job w/ conditioning test; didn’t gain any body fat
• Luther Robinson is in premier shape of his career; playing at higher level
• Olsen Pierre 305 lbs
• Chick 277
• Next group starting to really fight and scratch and claw for time
• Jelani, Earl Moore, Kamalu, Renfrow, Gilbert, etc. – Helped w/ competition
• Expects Gilbert, Kamalu, and Renfrow to contribute immediately and be part of rotation
• Much better position overall with down 4 than we were at anytime last year
• Pass rush… better than a year ago; they were already better in the spring, will be even better now
• Competition between OL and DL is fierce right now
• DL stuck it to them on Thurs, and Fri
• Went back and forth yesterday
• Exactly what Golden imagined it to be when he first came to Miami
• DL is hungry and blue collared right now
• 2013 class came in waves, excited to finally have them all together
• Quan Muhammad been playing really well
• Alex Gall has been in rotation at OG
• Some of new guys are starting to really get in rotation
• Once they make some plays, we’ll give them a shot in Special Teams, and if they can handle that, they’ll start getting reps on offense/defense
• “How hard is it to get a guy that was the star of his team in HS to get him to run down on the field and ask him to make plays on Special Teams before he can get in on offense/defense?”
• Golden: less difficult now than it was a couple years ago; Allen Hurns, Herb Waters making sure young guys understand how important it is
• Not everyone is a first or second rounder; if you wanna make a living in the NFL, you need to build that into your resume now
• Allen Hurns is a guy when NFL scouts come around can say “I started all 4 years on special teams in my career” and that’s great for his NFL potential
• The younger guys (Artie burns, Jamal, Jermaine) have embraced it
• Schwartz center: Miami has never been the biggest, but in terms of quality right now, we feel like we have a home
• It’s not just bricks and mortar and an expansive structure, it feels like home
• Everything about our tradition, legacy, former players and teams riddles the walls and you can feel it
• We needed to get that back; when you get on the practice field, those eyes (former players) are on you now- ST26, Gino Torretta, Willis McGahee
• Standard that you have to match and guys are starting to understand that
• Making transition from “respecting the legacy” to “representing the future and moving forward”
• BBQ after practice: In the New Student Center (new building across Lake Osceola) great way to start
