I know I'm going to get a good deal of grief, possibly dumb remarks
over this post. But some things have to be said.
Don't blame Al for his performance, blame the U for hiring him,
going on the cheap.
What were Al's obvious mistakes ?
1- Micro-managing his coaches
2- Keeping D'nofrio much to long. Saving his friend.
3- He got into some trouble with HS coaches
4- He brought a Penn St. philosophy. Miami has always been "speed"
5- He thought Miami would be as easy to coach as Temple.
6- Al Golden was "green" he needed much more experience under a proven coach.
7- He completely misunderstood the Miami fan and alumni base.
Finally, do I think Al Golden is a nice person ? Yes, I do. Do I think there
was entirely to much "hatred" against him as a person. Yes, I do.
He failed here, but he tried. And for that I wish him the best.
Football is a game.

Well Bob. I see Golden as I guy I could go and have a few beers with. But he never, ever, should have had the keys to Miami Football.

Well put there bro

Can't feel sorry for Golden. He sucked the life out of this program and fan base, while making millions doing it.

**** Al Golden.

Is this the uniform thread? Can't possibly be a Fraulden thread.

Al Golden is gone. Unlike Randy and to a lesser extent, Coker, he wasn't even a Cane when he got the job.

He never was a Cane, never will be a Cane. He shouldn't even be mentioned on this board ever again.

Right, no one owes him anything.

He squandered millions of opportunities for this school and athletes while cashing big checks into his own account.

Fugg him

I'd rather wipe my memory clean of the third of the trifecta of poor hires....

Now it's time to dominate again - it's been far too long since we have...

Get over him already.....thank him, hate him, **** him, but let it go.....things are looking up......get on board and move forward

The guy is stubborn and couldn't adjust. He was given plenty of time to adjust his philosophy and learn on the job bc he was nice. That's not good enough at this level.

Did the best he could. Had intentions to be great!

But wasn't remotely close to being ready to compete at an elite level.

I wish him well, and thank him for leading the program through the NCAA investigation and sanctions.

Who is Al Golden?

We suffered the way we did because of the idiot AD who extended Folden until 20-friggin-20!! Basically handcuffed us to the guy and his sinking ship for way longer than we should have been.

There is one positive I can say about al golden. When the program was in disarray over the sensationalist attacks from yahoo sports, al golden was the guy who reminded us that UM was a true power program. If only his actions as coach could have matched a fraction of his words, but they did not.

The stuff listed in the OP, while being factual are symptoms and not "the disease" IMO. The disease was simply that al golden was not a prime time coach. He was out-matched by the gig.

One huge mistake you left out. After he went 9-3 and then went to interview for the Penn State job. i felt bad that Randy Shannon didn't work out, I couldn't care less about Al Golden.

Al Golden is a malignant narcissist and these types always garner the benefit of doubt and excuses from their victims. The OP is calling for mental health treatment and suffering from Stockholm's Syndrome. Al Golden's success and honor (lol) has been attached to some Canes fans personal self-esteem. Don't eulogize him here, write him an email and invite him to dinner so he can rebuff u so hard that u actually ponder suicide.

Who doesn't have intentions to succeed at whatever they do? That's like bragging that u take care of your kids. Just reaching to save his face. Golden dogged fans, "we shut out everyone...they don't know football..." numerous times, he finessed our situation into a first season raise and. extension, and he tried to leave for PSU, and then lied to all of us about it. Not gonna mention his actual coaching. For the last time, he wasn't being stubborn...he was incompetent--he couldn't make adjustments--he didn't have the ability to. Stop it lol!

lmao @ people still saying that he "kept donofrio too long"...

it was al's defense. he is a defensive coach for gods sake. i hate donofrio as much as the next person but to make it look like we woulda been better if he fired donofrio is BS. as long as al was here, we would still be playing the same defense. why is it so hard for people to understand that? al is a former DC. if he did it to save his friend like people say, he coulda forced Dnofrio to play whatever defense he wanted. obviously, this was the defense that al wanted to play.
