Al Golden is the right man for the JOB

Why do you guys think Saban has the best defense every year bc he gets the number 1 rated class every year. Look at LSU's defense w/o MO clay, PP7, brockers, mingo, etcc. Did Chavous forget how to coach? Nope..

Saban has the best defense every year because he gets good players AND he's a defensive genius. Don't let the recruiting rankings fool and don't get it twisted, dude can coach his *** off and he's one of the most innovative defensive minds in the game.

Yea golden is the right man for the job but I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Charlie strong get a shot at this U thing... Golden is a great coach but his loyalty might be holding the U back he knows who the dead weight coaches are coach D, swasey, and frainklin, but he wount get rid of thoes guys because of his loyalty and for that reason golden might never win a nat championship at Miami... I'm just being honest......

It is not JUST recruiting. It is about the Jimmies and the Joes, but Coaker still had an ALL PRO team but managed to be helpless. We all hate Saban, but sucker can coach and recruit. Inherit a mess, get 3 year NCAA witch hunt throw on top of it, undo the HS anger left behind by staff that only recruit 2 HS, then get back into BCS top 10 for undefeated match with FSU, completely remake team into beasts that never quit, land top 5 recruiting class BEFORE ncaa final decision. I think we have the right guy. Yeah, I am pretty sure we have the right guy. He is as driven as Saban, but actually has a personality. We are watching a legend in the making. He will get better and better each year, each game, each play. That is his process.

He had exactly the right plan for FSU and it was working for a half. Couple more Jimmies and Joes is all he needs. Or maybe a Chad or Valentine.

Chavis lost all that NFL talent and still has his unit ranked 22nd in total defense.

10 spots ahead of old Doreets.

Herbie was just on with Joe Rose and said that until Miami gets some difference makers on the DL that we won't be an elite defense.

We need to recruit better.

Golden believes that Donofrio, Swasey, and Franklin are "dead weight"? That's a **** of an assumption.

So you'd like to fire Golden and attempt to hire Strong. And assuming that is successful, we'd then need to implement a different offensive and defensive philosophy. Fantastic plan.

You should apply for the UM athletic director position.

Do you think anything held us back?

Yes.

We must (we already are, I think) recruit better if we want to hang with the Bama and FSU's of the world. Not saying that we can't or won't, but the caliber of player that's been brought in these past three years is not going to get it done. These diamonds in the rough that the staff finds at the camps are fine, but they need to be coupled with elite, can't-miss talent. It's already happening. Just need to end this recruiting cycle on a powerful note in a few months.

Are we talking about DL or other positions? These diamonds in the rough, who are you referring to at the DL?

No one is denying we need to bring in more studs ESPECIALLY on the DL. But the way you say it (general statement) makes me think that you think we weren't handicapped in some way. As if we just were blowing it at the position.

I think at the DL (this cycle) we probably bring in 2 more DTs. One JUCO and one HS Senior. My guess is the HS Senior is Molten. No clue who that is from JUCO. If Stuckey can qualify, we're in really good shape too.

Everyone knows we've been handcuffed, but it's just strange because we were able to recruit top shelf talent at most other positions but DL just fell through the cracks. It's not a huge deal since we have so many upperclassmen this year, but we really need to hit on some big-time DL this time around. I don't know if we've found them yet because I've never seen guys like Thomas, Valentine, Harris, etc play. I trust that this staff realizes that it's do or die.

I am no scout, I don't pretend to be one. So I will ask you...

In terms of HS Seniors (no JUCOs) if we hit on Valentine, Jenkins and Molton at DT. Combine that with Harris, Thomas and Jackson at DE. Would that be what you are talking about?

Even though I don't think any of these guys will play much in 2014, I am curious if this is what you think would be good.

I cannot explain the DL position (why it seems to be off with top shelf talent). But the DL has two positions, DE and DT. Clearly some of the DEs are pretty good: McCord and AQM. Also, Hamilton was a big deal too. Highly recruited kid from south fl as you know. At DT, we have struck out and that 2012 class has one remaining: Moore.

It remains to be seen what Hamilton, Kamalu, Moore and Hoilett will contribute. I expect to find out more next year when they are all upperclassmen.

Agreed.

And now that Golden is on a level playing field, I expect him to obtain the type of DT he is looking for...

Looks good to me. I think this class is going to be great because it looks like they're recruiting guys to fill certain roles we're seeing in this 3-4.

Offense is looking good too with Kaaya, Yearby, the OL.

I trust this staff and their ability to evaluate, I just don't know how far we'll get with too many these "projects" they find at their camps while Bama and FSU are recruting 4 and 5-star savages at every position.

Who are these projects you are referring too?

Projects:

D. Jones
Hope
Dortch
Armbrister
King
Tucker
Wells
Sunny
Hoilett
Figueroa
Blue

Now, before I get negged into bolivian, let me say that I appreciate this staff's ability to recognize and evaluate and find guys that fly under the radar. Recruting is it's own entity these days. These 5-star cats (for lack of a better term) all want to go to Bama, FSU, LSU, UF, Texas, USC, Oklahoma, etc. Golden has done everything in his power to make the U relevant again nationally. Now we need to use that newfound relevance and go get these 5-star savages so we can compete with, and eventually overtake Alabama.

@Rok

You're just being nitpicky and clearly you're the type of person who is never satisfied. Glass half empty type of Debbie Downer.

Look at our last NC team. There are projects/JAGs up and down that roster.

TK,

Look, I'm sorry that you don't like me. I've never cared what people think about me and I'm not going to start now. I'm never going to be satisfied with getting blown out by FSU. Three straight years of this ****. It may be unfair to expect to beat them, but it isn't unfair to expect a better showing than what we saw on 11/2.

Now, Butch Davis had a special eye for talent. Maybe Al does too. Many of his under the radar guys are proving to be good players.

But unless Al and company are just as good at evaluating talent as Butch and his guys were, then we need to hit on some more of these black savages particularly on the DL.

It would appear that the focus has been on finding difference makers on the OL and DL this year and things are looking good. We need score big in February because we had a chance to get guys like Bryant and Bostwick but lost out on them for whatever reason. That cannot happen again.
