Even Clinton's drinking that Kool-Aid! Love how he still reps the U and stays involved with the program.

Also, it's clear how much more excited Al is about this season than ever before. Feel like our equation for success is "Good QB play + Slightly-Above-Average Defense = Shot at Playoffs"
Not predicting good qb play or slightly-above-average defense. But you have to imagine that those two variables aren't impossible. So the playoffs aren't impossible? Guys I'm just so hyped for this season. Don't think I've been this hyped for a season in a long time. I know on these boards we grumble a lot and attack optimism, but realistically, you have to get the feeling that this season could be the turning point. Let's go canes.

/waits for "But can he play DT?"

IDK if this D can control the line of scrimmage, so turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. I would ask special teams to that. I REALLY think Duke should be on kickoffs with Coley against loserville. He could house one or two, and really take pressure off the new QB and a suspect D.

Biggest nugget in that 2 minutes was Golden essentially saying this is Duke's swan song.

As if they've already discussed it.

Golden is no fool. If Duke is going to leave, let it be public knowledge. There is a reason why we have 4 stud RBs in the 2015 class. They know they have a chance to come in and get a bunch of carries as a true freshman

Hopefully Duke can stay healthy all season and put up some big numbers to help out whoever is at QB. If the D can play 50% better than last season the O has the potential to carry the team far!

Still not sold on the OL, do think defense will be a lot better, quarterback is questionable.

The whole QB play question is addition by subtraction. I think Kaaya or Heaps will play better than snickers last year. Just be smart, manage the game and get the ball in the playmakers hands. We don't need John Elway just an efficient, steady guy.

Oh yeah, and converting a 3rd down once in a while would be greatly appreciated. This is where my boy Braxton will shine.

I'm with you. I'd use Duke on returns against all of our best opponents. A TD or long return to the 5 could be the difference between winning and losing.

Remember, last year when we were 7-0, Golden kept tempering expectations because he knew we weren't quite there yet. The fact that he is more excited than we have seen him is noteworthy because he has always been realistic with expectations.

I'm an Alfred fan but dude needs to either a) stop crossing his legs or b) buy some longer socks and/or pants.

if he has a monster year, i hope he goes for his and his family's sake. he's on target to get a degree in december, so he would have fulfilled his promise to his mother.

People seem to forget that Golden wasn't drinking the Kool Aid last year.... With that said, we were #89 in total Defefense last year and that's totally unacceptable... Even with the lack of high profile players last year, Golden & D'Onofrio should've fielded a better Defense...

Lol, I dont think I have ever heard a coach essentially push a guy out. I know Golden does everything for a reason tho. Duke was on radio talking about staying 4 years and I mentioned in that thread that the coaches probably didnt like that as it probably didnt fit with their pitch to recruit our committed backs that we have at the moment.

Love that coach is being a little candid here.

Realistically FSU could be our only loss this year. I mean no other team we play is really ahead of us. They mught be ranked a few spots ahead (even if its bull like UNC) but there not really that far ahead. UL lost ALOT and yeah their offense will prob be great, but if our D is af least decent, we can win because we will also have a great O. I mean VT absolutely sucks in O, and the hardest part about that game is its on the road on thursday. If we only lose to FSU in reg season and manage to upset them in ACC champ game, were in. It really isnt even that crazy to imagine, as long as our D is top 50 and, well thats pretty much it..

I think Edge was considering staying and Butch him no you're not, go get that money.

I could see our D taking a huge step forward. Everyone is coming back, and we've added a lot of talent. No way can we be ranked lower than 50 this year, in my opinion. We've never had talent, depth and experience at the same time like we have now. Not since Golden arrived, at least. No longer is our secondary talented but inexperienced. They are seasoned. No longer is our D line thin, low on talent and experience. It's the best D line Golden has had since he's been here. Any linebacking corp that has DP will be solid. I'm fully, fully expecting a top 50 D, and possibly quite a bit higher than that.

This will be the first year where IF we stink up the joint on D, there really is no reason/excuse. What else do you need to field a solid D? Nothing.
