Al Golden and James Coley - August 16th (8/16)

Langham came in at 230 and they want him at 222. Good size.
I don't get it with these weights lol. Is 222 big and small at the same time?

If he came in at 222, they'd probably want him at 217. It seems to be more about getting guys to buy into the team culture and program.

Or maybe he was just carrying 8-10 pounds of off season fat.
Pretty apparent that Golden knows how important conditioning is when you play home games in a sauna.

How sick would the Wishbone offense be. Gray at QB with Gus, Duke & Yearby in the wishbone.

Or a wingT

QB/WB: Yearby
HB: Duke
FB: Gus
WB/QB: Gray
TE: Stan
WR: Coley

I think teams would freak if CANES came out in that formation

121 Buck Sweep
83 Belly
Then...

Hit 'em with the Waggle!

FML.

Hahaha.

Buck sweep, trap, counterXX, waggle, rinse & repeat.

Trap is the money play if your off tackle play is buck sweep. I might want Duke as the fullback in that style wingT.

If your off tackle play is power or belly down, then I would keep Gus at fullback. He has enough bulk to kick out on power or break a second level tackle on belly down.

It's also pretty apparent that he uses the S&C program as a measure of discipline, focus and willingness to be part of a team. You've never heard him say "that guy's at a good weight or size" - until the guy is basically a senior. He'll say someone needs to commit to get bigger or, in the alternative, to get leaner. It's part of the mental/commitment process. Lots of coaches/leaders do it. Some of the things he values fit more with concepts (pillars) the staff believes will eventually carry over to the field of play as opposed to direct impact. It's not a guess. I'm going from what players have mentioned they feel (based on what they are told) is being emphasized.

Played in and against this obnoxious offense. I'd volunteer to play scout team FS just so I could try to guess the keys. So tedious, lol.

You know you want to see Duke and Yearby (w/ TG at QB) in the criss-cross, man!

Golden sounds like Rainman when he starts rattling off all those weights. I keep waiting for him to throw in an "I'm an excellent driver".

I've always thought the same thing. He feels the need to throw out two or three different weights every time he's asked. "He's came in at 234, 236, now he's at 222, 224"

He's a savant when it comes to rattling off weights. He can hit the most obscure guys on the roster. "Yeah. Huge Dillypinga came in at 135 137. He's 180 183 now. We want him at 184.3."

Susan: "How would you say coach D's been handling the criticism, you know, that a lot of people were making last year? I know you don't really pay attention necessarily, to some of what and that which is coming out, and of the outside, you know, just focusing on the field. What do you make of that?"
AG: "Mark's doing real good for us here Susan. Made a commitment back in the spring, really got on the right track. He's down around 265 for us here now, and certainly, that's a big commitment right there Susan."
Susan: "And, what was he before?"
AG: "282-283. Somewhere around there."

Most teams try to read guards and end up getting burned. All it takes is one gut, influence trap, or buck sweep keeper to get burned for a massive gain. It's a great high school offense.

Yes! The would be a sight. The QB actually ends up being the lead blocker for the wing back after the second handoff. Older versions of the XX actually use the QB as a pitch man instead of being a lead blocker.
