guys it's real simple.
Players take on the personality and character of their coach.
Randy just wasn't a very good leader of men.
Golden is.
It's hard to buy that when Shannon, for all his faults, is a fighter and a survivor. He's had a rough life but is still standing. Given that, your theory doesn't hold water when held up to the fact our team under him consistently crumpled like a wet paper bag under pressure and in every stretch run. You'd think they would have been more like him in that regard. We have to remember that prior to being tabbed for HC, he had succeeded at every level of the sport he had been at. You don't get that far in life with a losing attitude and personality.
Randy was well regarded by many of his players, and some of them looked up to him as a mentor and father figure, so in a certain way he was a good leader of men. He just wasn't any good at leading a football program, which is another thing entirely.
I feel that AG will be less 'loved', more feared and more respected as a leader of our program. He's definitely taken a cue from the Jimmy Johnson playbook in regards to how he operates as the figurehead, but only time will tell whether the results are any different from Shannon's. For now, it's just talk.
Shannon overcame a lot. Shannon was a self-disciplined, self-starter, and I think he mistakenly assumed that the players would have the same mindsets and on their own do what was necessary to empower themselves.
And that didn't work out.
Anyone want to put together a list of Al Golden 3*s and Randy Shannon 5*s. The only RS 5* that I can remember actually turning into a baller is Arthur Brown, who as we all know, is no longer with the Canes.
Who were the other 5*s? Forston, Seantrell, Brown, Ray Ray...
the irony in that is arthur brown balled out after he left miami
