Which player would you put/want on your team?

Given the player had played under either coach for 2 full seasons.

i agree it is early but i feel and randy shannon coached player and a larry coker coached player would quit way before a golden player would. work ethics appear different and the results appear to getting better.

now if i was asked about a botch 3 * or a al golden 3* id take a botch 3* but there is proven success there

Anyone want to put together a list of Al Golden 3*s and Randy Shannon 5*s. The only RS 5* that I can remember actually turning into a baller is Arthur Brown, who as we all know, is no longer with the Canes.

Who were the other 5*s? Forston, Seantrell, Brown, Ray Ray...

it's hard to say.. some guys are going to be good regardless of what shannon tried to do to them (Sean Spence)..... but if you have two 3 star ______________ (position) of similar size, speed etc.... i'm taking the guy in golden's system, no hesitation.

the irony in that is arthur brown balled out after he left miami

I was actually talking about a somewhat related topic with another 'Canes fan the other day - the unbelievable bust rate of our highly rated recruits in the Coker and Shannon errors. We were talking about how it looks like SH could end up being another one, unless he somehow can make up for all of the missed practice time and the coaches' apparent unhappiness with him. In the last 10 or so years, we've had so many nationally recruited kids, who chose us over other good programs, come in and underperform or totally flop. Guys like Akeem Jolla, Kyle Wright, Charlie Jones, Ty Moss, Marve, Arthur Brown, Aldarius, RRA, etc, etc. How much different would our past 10 years have been if some of these guys had lived up to their recruiting rankings? How would some of these guys done at other places?

We decided that it had to relate to the lack of an overall plan by the coaches, with guys not on meal plans, workout plans, etc, and the lack of good coaching. It seems like Golden has a grand plan that incorporates everything that will help us get back and seems to have coaches that are capable of coaching our guys up. I guess we'll see.

Agree that it's way too early to tell how Golden's evaluations pan out. From greentree reports I'm very optimistic, but we have had a lot of Greentree All-Americans lately.

I agree wholeheartedly!!

The total lack of player development throughout the last 10 year lull was atrocious. there are people that feel that is all on the players and it is but how much they are motivated by the coaching staff really affects the outcome. When you recruit by * and not do what you can to find out about the players persona you are up the river without a paddle. You will find players that will work hard regardless but if these guys are not scheduled and given expected results they will normally do the absolute minimum to get by(it really showed on the field).

I think that most of the guys that Randy Shannon recruited were "me" guys. They were just trying to get in the NFL or they were trying to get a pay day from Shapiro.

Then there were guys that Shannon recruited that never even seen the field. Shannon really sucked as a recruiter. If you look at that 2008 class... A lot of those guys didn't even make it to Miami. Every year his classes would have kids that didn't qualify or never contributed to the team. That's why we had no depth on this team.

The sum up the cluster **** that was Shannon, if Golden was the Coach in 2008 we would have had Geno Smith as our QB instead of Jacory Harris.

A five star is a five star no matter who recruited him. The chances of success are higher with 5 star. So I would take the 5 star

It's the wrong question... The real question is, which STAFF would you rather have?

The kids can only go as far as their coaches take them. Talent without hard work, discipline, and dedication is an unsharpened sword.

bailey could have been so much better had he been taught form and developed into a better pass rusher. He surely wasn't out of shape but he just didn't progress as he could have under a different group of coaches.

guys it's real simple.
Players take on the personality and character of their coach.
Randy just wasn't a very good leader of men.
Golden is.
Nothing more to it. forget about stars. Had Golden recruited the same classes Shannon recruited from 2007-2010 things would have been different.
If Randy would have been the head coach at Temple and recruited the same player Golden did at Tempe, things would have been different for them.
