We already have the evidence in the form of the NFL draft.

Since 2000 only 4 RB's have been drafted ion the first 3 rounds on the NFL Draft that weighed 195 lbs or less

2000 - Trung Canidate - 193 / 4.41
2007 - Lorenzo Booker - 191 / 4.46
2007 - Garrett Wolfe - 186 / 4.39
2023 - Devon Achane - 188 / 4.32

Again - each of the RB's have a chance to be good college RB's. I'm not knocking any of them. But there's 5-6 threads right now about how we need more NFL talent, and these body types are MAJOR outliers to become NFL players.

Why are you comparing NFL Draft weight to high schoolers when CJ and Wheatley have 3-5 years to get to that point? Plus, you're wrong right off the bat, Gibbs measured sub 200 as well.

I don't really care about the draft either, there are PLENTY of smaller RBs that destroy college teams.

Weird take when a bunch of 5’8” - 5’10” 190-200lb (and 5’5” 160) RBs were just drafted.

Knighton isn’t even here.

Parrish is what he is at this point.

CJ hasn’t set foot in a college weight program.

Wheatley is a HS jr, also see above.

Allen is a freshman with decent size already.

CJ and Wheatley can put on the necessary weight still for their skill sets. Who would want a bunch of Kamara’s and Gibbs amirite?

Kamara was the #42 player in his class. He's 214 / 4.56
Gibbs was the the #76 player in his class. He's 199 / 4.36

You're comparing totally different talent & physical levels

Small update. Keep in mind this is not from family but someone who’s know them.

On Richard: I was reminded that I dated one of his relatives when she was at Grambling, but that’s another story. Education very important and some important family members will be with him. Can see immediate playing time but won’t think it will be handed to him. Film junkie who already is knowledgeable of the D we will run.

Allen: my daughter actually did the post game show as she was a student at Neville so she told me who we know that knows the family. After having to hear why would he want to go to Miami and LSU is sitting right there interested, I held my tongue until the end of the conversation because I wanted the info.

Nothing ground breaking but not only is he open to us and interested but the family is as well. Also will have some important people with him. I asked important as could make a decision while he is here people and got yes.

From going through recruiting with a family member I won’t reach out to any of the family unless we don’t get news this weekend. I know how it is for the phone to be ringing with questions so I will respect that for now.

If I get anything else I will share if I’m told I can.

But this is a grab-bag of selective statistics designed to push your narrative.

For instance, if your complaint is about people who start threads about how we "need more NFL talent", it's pretty misleading to only include NFL guys from "the first 3 rounds". Because the "first 3 rounds" consitutes less than 100 players per year, which omits a huge chunk of the NFL.

Only displaying part of a picture is not "we already have the evidence". It's "I only want to show you a sliver of the evidence which supports what I want you to conclude".

We need guys who COULD become NFL talent. Whether that involves them getting bigger or faster...is to be determined.

If you think that the 2023 versions of Edgerrin and Najeh and Willis are walking through that recruiting door at the same time, you MIGHT be disappointed...

Here's a list of the Top 10 NFL RB's since 2000 who weighed 195 lbs or less at the NFL combine - sorted by Pro Football Reference's Approximate Value

@TheOriginalCane - I know this will only make you dig in deeper. But honestly - how much more data do you need?

For other posters - look at this list. These sub 195 lb RB's CAN be GREAT college players. But they are extreme longshots to make an impact in the NFL. A good one comes along about every 4-5 years.

Loading your roster with NFL longshots isn't smart - that's all I'm saying.

You’re comparing NFL size to high school and using two kids as your argument we are stacking small RBs. Leaving out Chaney, Citizen (get well soon), and Fletcher. There’s nothing wrong with taking two of the most athletic backs in the state because they’re around 180lbs. That’s not stacking small backs. That stacking playmakers.

Plus look around college football at all the success smaller backs have anyway. 1-3 RD for RB isn’t necessarily the barometer you feel it is. After the top 1-2 backs are taken that position falls because you get great value at it lower.

Give me a backfield of Deuce Vaughn dwarfs for all I care if they have game breaking abilities.

Solid, as always!

Any attractive single moms in the mix? I joke, I kid...

Take care, sir, keep up the great updates!

Bolded. So what’s the problem again?

On their 247 recruiting profile Gibbs was 191 and Kamara was 195.

Allen (182), CJ (178), Wheatley-Humphrey (175) are on different levels. They're 10-20 lbs behind where Gibbs & Kamar were in HS, and rated 200-400 spots behind of them as recruits.

Look - I like each of these RB's and think they're all takes. But it would be illogical to have no concerns about their weight. IMO - they're the type of talents that will help us maintain the 6-9 wins a season team we've been, but they're not the types to lift us above that.

'23 NCAA rushing leaders in the top 25 with listed weights out of HS.

Mohamed Ibrahim - 178 lbs
Tyjae Spears - 175 lbs
Deuce Vaughn - 166 lbs
Khalan Laborn - 180 lbs
Blake Corum - 180 lbs
Keaton Mitchell - 170 lbs
Frank Gore Jr - 170 lbs
Marquez Cooper - 183 lbs
Xazavian Valladay - 175 lbs
Brian Battie - 170 lbs

So 40% of the top 25 rushers in CFB last year were ~180 or sub as prospects. All 1,000 yard rushers which we haven't had since Yearby.

Seem like real high character players and families. That North Louisiana roots. Would love to add them. Definitely keep the updates.

Allen's weight is perfectly fine. He has 4 years left and likely in the 190 range. Wheatley just finished his jr year of HS making him irrelevant to compare to. You're really just harping on this because of CJs weight and I just listed 40% of the leading NCAA rushers came out in his weight range, and he's more talented than any of them.

I concede the aforementioned, I thought they were smaller coming out but they weren't big backs and in the same mold as CJ and Wheatley, all purpose athletes playing RB.

Reading comprehension :)

Nope. Your argument has been why take these types because they may not have NFL success or become round 1-3 picks. This is a college football board still isn't it?

"These sub 195 lb RB's CAN be GREAT college players. But they are extreme longshots to make an impact in the NFL"

Your words, not mine. Don't care about NFL impact.

If a majority of your betting strategy is to bet on longshots, then you're not a good gambler.

AGAIN - Individually I think they are each of the RB's are takes. I like each of them and are worth a shot, even if they have a lower % of hitting.

The issue is when these types become the majority of the types your taking.

You're reading this as me saying "don't take any of them". What I'm actually saying is "it's not smart to take this many"

Crazy idea...hear me out on this one.....

Instead of recruiting a majority of our players from the 40% group, recruit a majority from the 60% group?

And these RB's outside of Corum are NFL longshots. We need more NFL talent to win more games. Why are you disagreeing with that statement?

Oh lord. This is what cracks me up, when you expose stat-nerd bull****, and then you get a double-down on stats bull****.

Go back and read what you wrote. You were so obsessed with the multiple threads talking about "NFL talent". Which nobody denies is happening, but which is much more specifically targeted to...say...OL...and DL...and LB...and WR/TE...

And I'll take it a step farther, since I just did some research on Miami's 1,000 yard rushers...outside of the UNPRECEDENTED run that Miami had at RB with Edge and JJ and Clinton and WIllis and Frank...Miami has had some pretty good RBs who have not gone on to big NFL careers.

We've had 42 running backs go for 1,000 or more yards (CAREER). 7 of those are pre-1975 era.

15 of those 42 have not been drafted.

Only 12 of those Top 42 guys have been drafted in the first 3 rounds. Five of those twelve are mentioned above (Edge, JJ, Clinton, Willis, Frank). So of our best 42 all-time running backs, it's more likely to go UNDRAFTED than to be picked in the first 3 rounds.

Miami can win with RBs who aren't "first 3 rounds" NFL picks. We don't need to have big "NFL guys" running the ball for us. We had a brief run with Butch when he brought in 5 of our 13 ALL-TIME BEST running backs (Edge, JJ, Clinton, Willis, and Frank, who were all "first 3 rounds" picks), but outside of that time period, we've done pretty well with guys who aren't large NFL-draft prototypes.

We just need good COLLEGE running backs, of any size. Stop obsessing over "NFL types", because people are using that terminology to describe our search for OL/DL and other size-dependent positions like LB and WR/TE.

We will only have two backs on the roster potentially sub 180 when they arrive. What are you even talking about now? I'll give you YOUR best case scenario to keep your argument alive.

Wheatley - sub 180
CJ - sub 180

Chaney - above 200
Citizen - above 200
Fletcher - above 200
Allen - 190+
Parrish - 190+

72% of our RB room will be in your stated range. Pretty sure we are also bringing in the other 60%.

Nowhere did I ever disagree about being an NFL long shot. But why the **** do I care about that? This is college.
