Meh it’s close enough that it could go either way. If you add the student side of things then there is no debate. My guess is 10 years from now McKenzie will feel very fortunate to be Mr. Berrios limo driver.McKenzie also left as a Junior.
I'm not gonna get into this debate again. Anybody who thinks McKenzie wouldn't have been a huge value to us is silly. Berrios had a great Senior year but before that this wasn't even a discussion.
Before that he missed most of a season, and was playing out of position. If he had 4 years in the slot..... Oh well.
Get off the homer act for one second and be objective.
Coming out of high school they weren't even in the same stratosphere. Hindsight is 20/20.
Heritage had a legitimate gripe regarding McKenzie and Dowels to be honest.
Not even trying to prove one point or another. Just look how close these two were.
Berrios vs McKenzie

Berrios 289 overall

McKenzie 5.8 #35 WR
247:
Berrios: 277 overall, #42 WR
McKenzie: 151 overall, #23 WR
Scout, in typical scout fashion, must have hated both of them, because their composite scores are not even close to the 3 listed above.
Testing results:
Berrios: 5’9/181
McKenzie: 5’8/160

McKenzie: 36
Power Throw

McKenzie: 35
SPARQ Rating
Berrios: 131.37
McKenzie: 87.84
Point is, even the recruiting services had these 2 very close and we had the worst head coach in Miami history doing evaluations.
Except there was one thing that Sparq couldn't measure...
The fact that McKenzie was running circles around everybody on AH's schedule including loaded Dade County teams.
Coaches don't use those numbers to extend offers.
