- Over the last 5 games, the offense is converting 40% of their 3rd down opportunities. That puts them 42nd in the country.

- During the same 5 game stretch, the defense allows teams to convert 50% of their third down chances. Placing them 120th in the country.

this is probably the worst 3rd and long defense in the history of CFB and it has been that way since day 1 under AG/Dorito

you skirted the question.. and I think our offense has been sub par and minimally creative under coley, but that doesn't change the fact that time of possession is directly linked with how much time the defense spends on the field too... we had 4 scoring drives against VT... the defense gave up a touchdown after each one.. i'm not sure what more the offense can do in that situation.

Al Golden’s tenure has seen great progress — on offense. The offense has improved from 38th in 2010 to 6th this year. For those questioning the accuracy of that stat, this is precisely why I have been screaming about the pace of play all year. When they have the ball, they do an overall great job. They just don’t get it enough. This is also why a defense not forcing three-and-outs becomes a major issue, even if the opponent doesn’t score.

On the other hand, the defense was ranked 13th in 2010, and is now 84th (after finishing 88th last year). The net result? The combined efficiency of the team (which also accounts for special teams) has gone from 23rd in 2010 to 29th now. It has essentially flatlined.
