A Few Guys Arguing Non-Stop [F/K/A "Let’s check on Lane Kiffen"]

Lol Lane would have Corch Fat Manny crying for more Ruiz money by halftime head to head.

When has Miami bro ever coached up any talent? Every player he’s ever had regressed just like his teams.

Win a game on the field. Until then get Lane out of your mouth.

how many rose bowls did Lane win at usc?
Lol I guess you don't realize USC was ineligible for the PAC 12 title and bowl games his first two years there. His second year he finished first in the south and AP #6.

Mario has only finished ranked twice in his career according to the AP.

Cool. But you could’ve just said zero, and been correct.

So, let’s say I completely discount the first two seasons (season 1 they lost 5 games, so rose bowl talk is wholly irrelevant). In year 3, how’d it go? In year 4, he wasn’t even allowed on the team plane after only 5 games.

That’s your king?

You do realize they were under sanctions (docked 30 scholarships) and jr's and seniors got a free pass to transfer. One of the reasons we got Seantrel Henderson. And he still brought in the 3,3,8,12 ranked classes. Comparing his tenure to Mario's is comparing apples and oranges.

And you can miss me with that stupid ****** ****. I GUARAN****ingtee I am way smarter than you.

Fine. I guess. It’s not a perfect 1:1 comparison, but my qp was a response to someone saying “Mario never won anything” - which just isn’t true. In 3 full seasons at Oregon, Mario won the division twice, the conference once and a rose bowl.

In 8 seasons at the P5 level, Lane has managed to win his division once. I’m not saying he’s a bad coach. ****, I like him. His teams are, mostly, exciting. He puts up points. But the Lane worship here is outta pocket.

Would he have been able to bandaid some bullet wounds, and go 9-3 this year? Maybe. Would we ever have enough talent to get “over the hump” though? Doubtful.

Ole Miss and Lane are going to rely on the portal. Plug and play players that can flash and move on.

Let them still think he cant recruit. lol

He's at Ole Miss in the sec west....Its HOW the Mississippi schools recruit anyway they use to hit the JUCO's tough...the smart play there is to land some HS guys and play the portal. I mean so far in the portal he has already landed a kid we shouldve taken and needed.

Yall did the same thing last year with him then he did well in the portal. Remember its ESD and there is another in February.

In state he landed 3 of the top 5 players there. I dont think he would be that off in Florida or playing the portal as much if he were here.

Lane's recruiting is transfer heavy and has worked for him at Ole Miss.

But he would get DESTROYED by our fanbase for that HS recruiting. **** half this board is complaining about our class.

The issue is that relying on the portal isn't a sustainable model. Depending on hitting at that level consistently is tough, and as we've seen with programs like Michigan State and others, it can be very inconsistent. You want to get to a point where you are able to hit the portal to cover gaps in recruiting, to add legitimate ready made depth, or possibly upgrade at key positions, if you are one elite player away. You don't want to be hoping that you can basically build a team around the portal additions, at least not on a yearly basis.

This is the question a lot of us asked when it appeared that Lane and Mario were the likely options. Do you go with the schematic guy, who isn't a strong recruiter, or do you go with the strong recruiter and hope he figures it out with his coordinator hires? You have a lower ceiling with Lane, but you also don't go 5-7 with him this season either. Mario, if he hits the way a lot of us think he does, has the blue print for a national title. This is what UGA, Bama, and the other high end programs are doing. They recruit at a crazy high level, they spend money on organization and they overwhelm the opposition with superior talent and resources.

Those Hugh Freeze boosters are not walking through that door anymore.
The question is WHY? You'd think that in a world where NIL is legal, Ole Miss would have a legitimate NIL program, they've been doing this, albeit illegal for DECADES. That's why I'm curious as to why Freeze could do it illegally, but Kiffin hasn't been able to pull it off, in a world where **** near anything goes.
