That evades the issue. The issue is his game day coaching and developing. These guys want to get to the next level. This only reinforces the perception that he can only win if he has an overwhelming talent advantage (which MTSU and Duke has already largely debunked) as opposed to coaching them up and putting them in positions to succeed. I've heard all the counter arguments but we're talking about perceptions. It gets him better players which gives you a better chance of winning despite his gameday coaching. If he needs to win on game days in order to acquire the talent we are screwed.
Yea of course that is a big part of it too but they had to do that after last cycle and the rashada messThis is true but not top 2-3 classes without upping the nil game significantly.
It’s fair. I was never a Mario fan but made peace with it because of this, plus we have no choice since he’s borderline unfireableI’ll speak for myself but this is why I am the way I am about this. I was down for Mario because it (seemed) to come with the investment needed. Without it…yikes
I am not evading the issue. My point is that I know his gameday coaching leaves a lot to be desired. It isn’t perception, it’s reality. That is why he needs to recruit at an insane level. He is not an offensive or defensive specialist himself so he basically has to hit on 2 coordinators instead of 1. And no I don’t, but we should have a talent advantage over almost everyone else. That evades the issue. The issue is his game day coaching and developing. These guys want to get to the next level. Besides, do you think we're going to consistently have a talent advantage over the likes of Bama, OSU, GA who are willing to pay whatever it takes.
People that just keep blurting out “overspend” don’t realize how colossally stupid they sound so it’s not even really worth engagingOverspending is a lazy answer. It's value. It's also their money so any opinion on how it's spent is childish. And L is an L. By money or clout.
Yup, 100% valid and an appropriate response for a program that cares about winning and putting their HC in a position to succeed. We embarrassed them on the trail and they responded; we can debate the probability if landing x % of their current class, but they responded with force nonetheless.Yea of course that is a big part of it too but they had to do that after last cycle and the rashada mess
Focusing on "recruiting on an insane level" as a solution precisely evades the fundamental is affecting perceptions. It's not the reason we've under achieved against FIU, Duke, MTSU. While he's not entirely responsible for Xs and Os, as head coach, he's responsible to ensure that it all comes together when we hit the field. Our repeated failures on gameday are creating the perception and it's being used against us in recruiting.I am not evading the issue. Maybe I didnt explain it well enough but you are missing the point of my postFocusing on "recruiting on an insane level" as a solution precisely evades the fundamental is affecting perceptions. Looks like everyone else is doing what they need to do to lock up the top targets.
Shouldn’t stop us imoBecause unlike Russell, Big Boy P5 programs actually want those guys and it will take NIL to land them
Respectfully, We have a habit of prematurely crowning everyone the best everything….coaches, players and recruits includedSee 2 posts above yours. Larry Johnson hasn’t done much lately and has had some big names you could say they underperformed expectations. Also google Jason Taylor. Now add to it everyone saying he may be the best hire and crowning him best recruiter…
Putting eggs in a High program cali (west coast) kid ( isee usc or oregon there) and another kid from an area we never got anybody b4 (who also is being sold on by chase young) will be touuuughhWe have momentum with Breland and Stewart this DL class can be salvaged. But losing Scott hurts…
Of course he is responsible for the on field coaching but it is clearly not his strength though and never has been. He is not a gameday coach. He doesn’t beat you with Xs and Os schematically. He hasn’t made any exceptional coordinator hires either. How he wins is through amassing elite talent that is better than other teams. So to say he needs to coach better is obviously true but it is puzzling why you would think he would suddenly now out scheme when he has not really done that his whole career. Last year he was able to land an elite class despite an awful year of bad hires and bad coaching. He needs probably two more cycles of that before this thing gets rolling. He is going to need to recruit well through relationships and NIL despite his poor gameday schematics in order to get out of this.Focusing on "recruiting on an insane level" as a solution precisely evades the fundamental is affecting perceptions. I agree with what you saying and I believe in Mario as a recruiter that’s why I’m still kind of just letting stuff play out. Need a guy like Franklin to pop this month that will calm fans down some and give at least a illusion of some momentumYup, 100% valid and an appropriate response for a program that cares about winning and putting their HC in a position to succeed. Can we say the same about our program as we’re currently in a recruiting lull? It’s not a mess - yet. But it’s building up towards one. I think anyone with half a brain at this point would agree that they need ANY sort of recruiting win just to show it’s not in fact a complete ****show.
Nobody wins consistently by just amassing elite talent. At some point you have to know what to with them.Of course he is responsible for the on field coaching but it is clearly not his strength though and never has been. He is not a gameday coach. I never said he had to do it all himself. JJ didn't do it himself. Neither did Butch or Howard. They provided leadership, established a culture and surrounded themselves with competent staff to implement and execute. Even Saban, with an insane level of talent, changed offensive coordinators several times until it clicked. His position staff is a merry go round, he's constantly tuning it.So to say he needs to coach better is obviously true but it is puzzling why you would think he would suddenly now out scheme when he has not really done that his whole career.

No doubt and if we had a class full of those guys listed it would still be a pretty good class. Problem is the expectations were set sky high and most would view that as a letdownShouldn’t stop us imo
Typically once most kids commit, they don't flip so we were able to hold on to majority of the class.lol
So why did they finish 14th last class and we finished Top 7, holding onto a majority of our recruits apart from a center that wanted to fly planes, a corner that fell in love with Deion’s false promises, and another corner who loved poon? Would have been 4th nationally.
Why was their portal class 18th and ours top 7 as well? What is the difference in the last 2-3 months?
