Plain Dealing (La.) High School DB Keldrick Carper recently announced his top four: Miami, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Arkansas.
The Canes offered him a scholarship in February, and he currently lists 31 offers.
“Those four are all sort of even,” Carper said. “Some are trying to peek out, but I’d say everyone is kind of close.”
Carper says he’s talking with coach Mark Richt “every week.”
“After he offered me, me and him talked every Sunday, would just talk,” Carper said. “We talk about a collective of football, non football. He tells me once you get down here you'll fall in love with the school itself. And he said they have such a great networking program and I did my research and they do. Getting a degree from the U I’ll be able to find a job as soon as I get out of school.”
Carper says the Canes made his final list mainly because of his relationship with Richt - “he’s a great guy, great coach. Look what he's doing with the program right now, he just donated $1 million to the indoor practice field. That means he's committed to Miami and what he's doing is going to be amazing, will bring back the U. That’s hard to turn down. Plus you can put your name next to the U and next to greats like Michael Irvin, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor and so on and so forth.”
Carper, who is listed as an athlete by Rivals.com, says he will play defensive back in college and that he’s “not considering” any schools that want him as a wideout.
An early graduate, he says he’ll announce a decision “between October and December.”
Carper says he’ll take an official visit to UM in September and also hopes to visit unofficially this summer.
