30 for 30: The U Part 2 coming

Based on where the last one left off, this is going to be about the rise from probation, the most talented teams ever assembled, the fall from grace/Shapiro, probation and the hypocrisy of the NCAA.

Plenty of material for another compelling movie that Canes fans will love. The best thing about these movies is that they keep the program relevant with recruits.

How much did the first one he? IMO, these gimmicks are stupid. Only thing that will keep us relevant is winning.

Yeah, how dare any of you have fun and actually enjoy following our program?

I've read where he wants to make it a trilogy, the 2nd being about Butch and the first couple of years under Coker. The third about the decline and Shapiro. ESPN probably just told him to combine all of it. Assuming it's 2 hours again, the first hour will probably be about the rise and the 2001 team, the next 30 minutes on the decline, and final 30 minutes on Shapiro.

Bump that, give me a trilogy on the rise alone. Keep that other sh*t for the birds, I dont want to ever hear that snitch name again

There's no way he ignores Butch and the early 2000s.

I do hope they get into how the Administration screwed Butch, and done him dirty.

Yeah, Butch did nothing wrong in the situation at all...

The admin ran off JJ, and I don't hear any complaining.

The admin jerked Butch over on his contract, and he just said, no thanks.
Butch was ripped at the end of the first one,he needs to be praised for all the talent he got into miami and the 2 or 3 NCs we should have won with a legit headcoach.

I can only see this is being a positive. Hopefully local kids will see that during the probation years local kids stayed home, weathered the storm and rose as champions.

Temporary working title: 'The U 2: Hustlin' With The Godmother' sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-footba…
9:22pm - 19 May 14

ESPN can't quit the University of Miami -- and that's good news for sports documentary viewers.

The network's ESPN Films division has ordered a second "30 for 30" documentary on Miami's football program following the immensely popular "The U" that aired in 2009. It focused on the fusion between the growing hip-hop culture in Miami and the swaggering football program that won four national titles between 1983 and 1991.

The working title is "The U: Part 2" and reunites "The U" director Billy Corben and producer Alfred Spellman. The documentary will air this winter as part of ESPN's "30 for 30" series, and the running time is expected to be two hours.

"The original film followed the transformation from a Miami football program that went largely unnoticed to 'The U' and all that [associated with it] both on and off the field," said an ESPN Films spokesperson. "It became a cult classic and remains one of the most talked-about '30 for 30' films we've ever done. But that narrative didn't end in the early 90's and this sequel will pick up where the original left off."

Corben and Spellman started principal shooting last week -- Dolphins lineman Bryant McKinnie, who played on Miami's 2001 national championship team, has already sat down with the filmmakers -- and viewers should expect the net to be cast wide for subjects. Among the NFL-ers who played at Miami during the late 1990s and 2000s: Frank Gore, Devin Hester, Ray Lewis, Clinton Portis, Warren Sapp, Jeremy Shockey, Jonathan Vilma, Reggie Wayne, Kellen Winslow Jr. and Vince Wilfork, Willis McGahee, and Phillip Buchanon.

The boom-and-bust culture of Miami has been a longtime interest of filmmaker Corben, a Miami native and University of Miami alum. He and Spellman teamed up for "Cocaine Cowboys," which examined the Miami drug culture in the 1970s and 1980s through the lens of the smugglers and hitmen of the cocaine wars.

The original "The U" film was watched by 2.368 million viewers during its Dec. 12, 2009 debut, which was ESPN's highest-rated documentary at the time. Executives at ESPN Films will tell you that more people ask about "The U" than any other documentary they've done.

Truly a love the message, hate the messenger situation with this. Commence the countdown until Billy Cohen starts making the rounds bashing the school again. "Wahhhh, they should appreciate me more!! Wahhh, Shapiro!! Wahhh, Shalala!!" Jughead Jones makes some good movies but he sure is a crybaby and a fraudulent fan. I'd like to know the last game he actually attended that wasn't connected to a media appearance. I highly doubt he can name more than 5 guys on the current roster. That said, I'm sure this movie will be good as the subject matter alone wouldn't allow for anything less.

Nate Dortch, Ronald Regula, Stephen Sweeney, Wyatt Chickillo, Matt Goudis, 5?

Nice effort but Wyatt Chickillo no longer counts. Anthony ate him over the winter.
