As D$ mentioned on the recent podcast - this is what makes Miami, Miami. Underrated players that just have true competitive fire, work ethic, drive, etc. Alot of which are from SoFlo.

From early reports it sounds like Richt and staff are getting back to the grassroots recruiting that built this program and you can see the results below. Alot of these underrated guys from 2017 are already blossoming into studs -
2015 -

RJ Mcintosh
Kendrick Norton

2016 -

Mike Pinckney

2017 -

Corey Gaynor
Mike Harley
De'Andre Wilder
Jon Ford
Amari Carter
Trajan Bandy
Jon Garvin

Who will emerge from the 2018 class?

DJ Ivey
Delone Scaife
Daquris Wiggins
Greg Rousseau
Tyquan Thorton?
Nigel Bethel?

Worth noting that a lot of our early commits were 3 stars when we started recruiting them and/or they committed

I've always liked Wiggins and Ivey from the jump so those two are quite obvious but Rousseau's size-speed is very intriguing, especially if he's able to play DE/OLB full time. Could see him blossom into an Arden Key type player.

Another kid I like is Ashtan Pierre.

Coach Richt has said South Florida is so deep in talent a 3-star would be a 4-star or even a 5-star somewhere else.

Garvin, Bandy & Harley finished their Senior year as 4-stars.

Give me ur 3 star studs @Liberty City El

U and @gogeta4 got good eye for talent as do a few others.
Among our commits, I think John Campbell, DJ Ivey, D Wiggins & Rousseau will be great players for us down the line once they all develop.

From the recruits that are still out there, I like Bethel, Thornton & Yasir Abdullah.
I also think Davontae McCrae will be a good DT, but we're not after him.

I agree wit you though, Big bruh gogeta4, the homie Rattler305, Barboni & Ibis Wingz along with D$ are guys whose opinion I respect a lot on South Fla talent. If they saying a kid is gonna be a beast, I'm listening to'em.

Yep. This is exactly why I don't get triggered if we ended up with guys like Hawkins, Joyner, Abdullah, Moore, Rousseau, Sherwood,Watt, Pierre, or any of several db prospects like Jonas, troutman, or Miguel Edwards that we passed up on.

2018 DT Dennis Briggs was as under the radar as they come for a 3* rated recruit.

But has blown up and will continue to improve.

Go Canes

Richt isn't messing around with 3 stars as much. He's more of a 4 star kind of guy it appears

From the 2015 class Cager and Gauthier should be impact players this year, Redwine is playing welll above his ranking, and Jackson and Knowles are developing into rotation guys as well. That's what's great about this staff, the 3 star guys are developing into Miami calibre players (and credit to to the players for putting in the work)

I doubt that he pays attention to stars when he evaluates a player.

And that's the key to the argument. Usually with an exceptional player there is consensus among major coaches which translates into stars so four and five star players do matter when initially judging a class. Ultimately our impact players were on a lot of people's radar forever thus we're high star kids. You don't look for stars when recruiting but there are very few studs that are well kept secrets today.

I still think there are some, perhaps more than people realize. I know of at least one up here in the Washington DC area. He might really blow up this season. I'm going to watch to see if he gets more attention from bigtime schools.

True, it's not like the 1980s, when the south Florida talent was unrecognized to a much larger extent. We helped change that with our success, and to a lesser extent, the success of the other schools. Out-of-state schools started paying closer attention to our local talent. Still, with such a talented team, how many south Florida studs does Alabama have on its roster? I'll have to look it up--I know of Jeudy and Ridley--who else? Back in the '80's, you could look at kids throughout south Florida who could play at a high level in college yet never made it on to the lists.

Back then, there were not as many recruiting services, no internet and certainly not as many camps. I think a lot of kids get their exposure through the camps. Then they get written up,not to mention they are looked at by college coaches.

Jimmy Johnson always said he wanted kids that got better every time they stepped on the college practice field, not the elite recruits who never progressed. I still think that's true. I also believe there is something to the notion that our lower stars could translate into higher stars elsewhere in the country. We had the greatest recruiting drama almost twenty years ago when we pulled in the nation's top player, D.J. Williams. The next summer, I got a message from a friend that in fall practices, some kid named Vilma was better than Williams. I don't think that was ever an exaggerration. Vilma was a relative unknown but he was great from the start. D.J. was not. He played his freshman season as a backup fullback, if i remember correctly.
