Shoutout to @NJshoreCane for posting this before the Wake Forest game and we clearly added to our woes this week (I’ll attach screenshots at the bottom for context)

Since the USF game we have been outscored in the 2nd quarter 82-51

Our scripted and early drives are lethal and then we seemingly go into a shell on offense. What do you guys think is going on? Seems a combination of Dawson working through the defense adjusting, Cam inexplicably going cold, and odd bounces and “luck”, our defense playing terrible etc

We’ve had several chances to pull away early and we seemingly find a way to mess it up every week

So during the 2nd, go make a grocery store run for half time snacks and drinks. Got it!

I remember in Brent Key presser where he talked about our 3rd down O by qtr. first qtr 80% efficient, 2nd qtr 30%, 3rd qtr 75%, and fourth 71%. Made an emphasis on that and it was eye opening. Not sure what it is, someone would have to deep dive what happens.

Miami has lost the chance to put teams away throughout the year.

Didn’t read all the data but what is turnover margins and penalties in the second quarter.

I feel Miami has played sloppy in second quarters and turned the ball over or stopped themselves on offense with penalties.

Defense just sucks so no changing the 2nd quarter for them.

absolutely

And for whatever reason Cam goes into a funk seemingly every week where he’s missing open receivers

After we got into conference play and opponents had tape on us, Mario, Dawson, and Guidry have all said teams started doing stuff on both O and D they didn’t show on tape.

When we’re on offense, the opposing team plays a cover 2 shell to attempt to limit our explosives. Dawson and Cam see it and make adjustments after testing them.

Same thing when opponents are on offense they try and play keep away to limit our offensive possessions and run plays not shown on tape. Except for GT, Guidry has been pretty good making adjustments in the 2nd half.

IMO (and maybe I need to see the splits in terms of pass/rush attempts and yards per attempt by quarter to validate it) but watching live i nearly always think that we abandon the run in the 2nd quarter for no reason. Either trying to go for the kill shot or because we’ve fallen behind. Happened both ways but it seems to usually be trying to do too much and go for the jugular. That’s just my opinion watching it and I’ve voiced it in game threads multiple times.

Are the YPC rush numbers bad in the 2nd quarter or just the total rush yards?

Well, I'm pretty sure last two games, the opponent has a 10+ play 8+ min drive in the 2nd quarter.

I never payed attention to that in previous games, but drives like that keeping our offense completely off the field def dint help.
Absolutely right but it’s definitely more to it than that

Those drives were almost carbon copies of eachother we just happened to get the defensive TD against Wake

It is very strange.

Cant recall if it was the 1st or 2nd quarter but cam missed #4 wide open on a roll out and instead decided he wanted to throw across his body for an almost INT in the endzone.

For such a great player he makes a few completely ridiculous decisions in each game.

End of 2nd quarter they faked the injury when we got inside the 10. We had them on the ropes and probably score on next play. Need to figure out how to overcome that nonsense.
That has happened at least 2-3 times. I believe it also happened against VT and Duke where we had the ball in the red zone. Fake injury by the opposition's defense and we failed to score, and continued to play terrible for a while.

That's on the coaches and players to stay focused. I know momentum is a real thing and the fake injury totally takes the offense out of rhythm. However, you can't let that get you so frustrated, that it's in your head for the next few series. Cam and the offense were extremely upset when that happened. Dawson must have been frustrated too, because he called questionable plays and Cam and the O played like they would have rather been anywhere else.

Yeah one or two games and you’re like ok no big deal

But when it’s 5-6-7 etc

IIRC we even had a little bit of trouble against FAMU. We scored early in the quarter and then struggled to the half
